Lasogga And Vieira Out, Roofe And O’Kane To Start – Strongest 4-2-3-1 Leeds Line-up To Face Barnsley

Predicted Leeds United Line-up To Face Barnsley In EFL Championship

Leeds United lost heavily at Wolves in midweek but had previously got back on track with a hard-fought win over Middlesbrough at Elland Road.

Ronaldo Vieira was sent off at Molineux for two bookings and so he will miss out here, with Eunan O’Kane likely to step into the midfield to cover him. Despite performing no better in the grand scheme of things than Felix Wiedwald, Andy Lonergan is likely to carry on in goal.

Thomas Christiansen looks set to once again deploy the following XI in a 4-2-3-1 formation:

Formation: 4-2-3-1

Manager: Thomas Christiansen

GK – Andy Lonergan

The fans seem happier with him in goal, though Leeds clearly have not entirely fixed their goalkeeping issue.

RB – Luke Ayling

The improving right-back is gaining support from more than just his own club and could be the subject of bids in January.

Luke Ayling

CB – Pontus Jansson

The huge Swede is a rock in this line-up and just needs a settled, solid partner. His last season’s partnership with Bartley has not quite been replicated this term.

CB – Liam Cooper

Competent and capable, but probably not up to the same standard as Jansson. His place would be vulnerable if Leeds sign a new defender in January.

LB – Gaetano Berardi

I’m aware top left-backs are not ten a penny but, much like Fulham down the road, Leeds have not replaced theirs and it shows.

Kalvin Phillips

CM – Eunan O’Kane

Had started the season well alongside Phillips and so will slip into Vieira’s place no problem.

CM – Kalvin Phillips

Made a storming start to the season and remains solid in central midfield.

RW – Egzijan Alioski

The wide man is on fire at the moment and you wouldn’t bet against him finding the net once again here. Apart from his own goalscoring exploits, he provides great support to Lasogga when he’s in the side.

CAM – Samu Saiz

The Spaniard has exceeded expectations for the most part of this season and may only get better in this division as the season wears on.

Samu Saiz

LW – Pablo Hernandez

Still possessing top quality in terms of his final pass, he could be crucial on the day.

ST – Kemar Roofe

Pierre Michel Lasogga’s illness – or at least that’s Leeds’ explanation – has kept him away from the side recently and the speedy Roofe was entrusted with the No.9 role against Wolves. He may be asked to deputise again, but in fact, this front four will have to be fairly fluid if they are to get success.
