La Liga Weekend Preview : Barca look to increase lead,Madrid Clubs can’t afford to drop Points

Barcelona are the runaway leaders of the La Liga this season and with just 1 draw and 9 wins so far, they sit comfortably on top of the table with Athletico Madrid the only club in touching distance. Athletico are just 3 points behind Barca while their inter city rivals and defending champions Real Madrid have 20 points and 8 behind Barca.

Mallorca vs Barcelona :

Sunday 11th November 2012, 16:50 GMT

Mallorca is currently in 13th place in the table. Their hopes of grabbing any points from this fixture lie solely on Giovani Dos Sontos as their other two big names : Uche and Ximo are sidelined due to injury.

Barca travel to Mallorca on Sunday and will be favorites to grab all the three points. Their midweek loss in the Champions League to Celtic will drive the team to take this game more seriously and never to underestimate the opposition.

The result served as Barca’s second loss in 17 outings in all competitions so far this term, and if there is anything worse than facing Barcelona it is probably facing them when on the rebound, which does not bode well for 13th-placed Mallorca.

Prediction : Mallorca 1-3 Barcelona

Athletico Madrid vs Getafe

Sunday 11th November 2012, 18:45 GMT

Athletico host mid table club Getafe and will look to keep the pressure on Barcelona. They had a 8 match winning streak up until last weekend when they were beaten by Valencia 2-0. They also suffered a shock  loss to minnows Academica Coimbra in the Europa League in the midweek.

But before these games, Atletico Madrid were simply on fire winning a stunning 13 victories in a row in all competitions.

And much like Mallorca against Barcelona, Getafe could be in for a torrid time against one of the best-performed teams of 2012/13 on the back of a rare loss – especially at the Vicente Calderon.

The man to watch out for is definitely Falcao who has scored 10 goals for Athletico in as many matches in the league and is the third highest scorer so far falling behind only to Messi and Ronaldo.

Prediction : Athletico 2-1 Mallorca

Levante vs Real Madrid

Sunday 11th November 2012, 20:30 GMT

A record of two defeats and a draw in their last three away matches against Levante does not bode well for Jose Mourinho’s side as they look to close the gap on Barcelona.

To make matters worse, Madrid will be without both their first choice strikers and left backs. Ronaldo is expected to play the striker role. But the bigger problem will be the left back position. Arbeola – a natural right back will have to shift to left back, Ramos who has been playing in the center back for both Spain and Real Madrid for the second year in a row will have to shift back to right back and the inconsistent Varane will play in the center back.

And after a disappointing draw against Dortmund in the Champions League, Madrid look vulnerable and Levante themselves are doing good in the league and are in the 6th position in the table. Only a superb late free kick from ozil saved them from an embarrassment loss.

Yet, Madrid have enough fire power in the midfield to blast them to victory. With the likes of Ozil,Essien,Kaka,Modric,Alonso,Khedira,Ronaldo,Di Maria in their squad, they should be winning this game. This should be the most exciting game of the weekend and will be a close contest.

Prediction : Levante 1-2 Real Madrid
