“Just a treat to watch”, “Best side in PL history”: Some Man City fans overjoyed after 2-0 win vs Fulham + Match Report

Fulham vs Manchester City Report: Manchester City match report

It was always going to be a game dominated by Manchester City and it showed with a 2-0 win. It started that way and it ended the very same. Don’t get that wrong, Fulham did put up a fight but their lack of service towards the front-men hurt the club.

With Aleksandar Mitrovic injured, the Cottagers fielded Ryan Babel as their sole striker. That was a move that would have made sense even if the big burly Serbian was fully fit and in goalscoring form.

However, Fulham were always going to be against the cosh, and as mentioned, they were truly put under intense pressure. In typical Pep Guardiola style, Manchester City moved the ball with purpose and intent.

Despite the fact that Scott Parker played with a low block, the Cityzens moved the ball around with speed and accuracy, eventually overwhelming the Cottagers. This lead to the first goal.

After a delightful array of passes in front of the goal, Sergio Aguero laid it off for Bernardo Silva, who finished with absolute ease. His shot, as if with a mind of his own, sped from just outside the box and onto the farthest corner away from goalkeeper Sergio Rico.

Things when from bad to worse for Fulham, as Sergio Aguero doubled the lead and that was it. Manchester City continued to dominate the proceedings but failed to capitalize on their myriad of chances. To put it in perspective to Fulham’s two attempts on goal, Manchester City had 24.

To Fulham’s 0 shots on target, Manchester City had 7. To Fulham’s 0 corners, Manchester City had 11. To Fulham’s 34.6% possession, Manchester City had 65.4%. It was a dominant performance and while fans may believe that the away side showed have scored more, Guardiola rightfully rested a few key stars.

The Cityzens play again on the 4th of April and while it is against Cardiff City, it is still a massive game in the title race. At the moment, they have a one-point lead over second-place Liverpool, with the Reds yet to play. If Liverpool beat Tottenham, it will keep the race on.
