Jose Mourinho Reacts To 1-3 Loss Against Southampton And Other Talking Points From The Game

The Champions of England suffered another humiliating loss in front of their home crowd as Southampton took care of Chelsea’s defensive lapses. The Blues took the lead thanks to a wicked free-kick from Willian but that was all they did good in the game. Southampton were level thanks to a great strike by Steven Davis and goals in the second half from Sadio Mane and Graziano Pelle were enough to give the Saints and unlikely but not surprising victory over the Champions.

Chelsea are now just four points above the relegation zone and with a double digit gap in points between them and Manchester City, we look at the talking points from this game.

Willian shining when others fail

Most of the Chelsea team have played below par and no one knows why. Jose Mourinho has tried to change things up but that has not worked and the only player who seems to be doing anything positive at the club is Willian. The Brazilian scored with a brilliant free-kick in the first half and looked like the only player who could actually score for Chelsea.

The Jose Mourinho interview

Well, this wasn’t a part of the game but if anyone saw the post-match interview of Mourinho, everyone knows there are huge problems at Chelsea. While Mourinho started saying that he was going to be honest, he actually went on a tirade against the referee, then the management and also spoke of how brittle his team is before he said that the management would have to sack him, but he isn’t walking away since he is the best manager the club has ever had. Jose has officially lost the plot and this does not look good for Chelsea at all.

Chelsea’s defence is a worry

In Mourinho’s first ever season with Chelsea, they only conceded 15 goals in the Premier League, they have conceded 17 so far this season. The defence was always Jose’s hallmark but this team is leaking goals and a fourth loss in the league, the second at home is a worry. Maybe the failure to sign John Stones is coming back to haunt them, however they still have a lot of experience at the back but nothing seems to be working for Chelsea.

Ivanovic needs a break, but Jose doesn’t see it

Speaking of Jose losing the plot, he just can’t seem to get over his love affair with Ivanovic, who again was torn to shreds by the Saints. Tadic and Mane had a field day taking on Ivanovic and for some reason; Jose does not drop the Serbian. The more games Ivanovic plays, the worse he seems to get but Jose just doesn’t seem to accept that.

The Saints go marching on

Ronald Koeman should get a lot of praise for the job he has done with Southampton. Despite losing a lot of players to larger clubs, he still gets the job done and in the second half when he brought on Ward-Prowse in midfield that gave Southampton more creativity and control in the midfield and that set the Saints up for the brilliant victory.
