Having won once in 13 games somewhat amazingly, Bristol City are still very much in with a shout of playoff football and have a terrific chance to get back on track this weekend against an injury ravaged Sheffield Wednesday.
City have Marlon Pack back after a two-game suspension while Nathan Baker and Famara Diedhiou will miss out with groin and knee injuries respectively.
Crucially big-hitters Aden Flint, Frank Fielding, Bobby Reid and Joe Bryan should all take part and it would be a surprise if they can’t get City over the line here with a good home victory. They sit only one point behind Sheffield United in 7th place, so a win here keeps the pressure on those above them.
Manager Lee Johnson is quite likely to go with a 4-4-1-1 formation, though a slight reshuffle is needed with Pack’s return.
He’s clearly reached the level we all thought he would and deserves a crack at the Premier League one way or the other.
The Aussie full-back has been a regular in a settled side this season and although some reinvigoration is needed, his experience in this position could be crucial.
The big man has been in great form all year and even though the season is taking its toll, players and teams tend to get a second wind and I can see a big performance coming from him.
A specialist will be needed to replace Baker in this role and it could fall to Kelly to keep things ticking at the back.
Another regular at left-back and one who can work well with Bryan down the left-hand side.
The wide man has done precious little wrong this term and deserves to keep going in this position.
A welcome return to the midfield for Pack, which not only means that the quality and shape changes for the better but also adds freshness to the side.
Should sit in the midfield well with Pack and keep things solid. There is enough talent in these two for them to cause damage.
What a season he’s had and despite some forgivable fatigue, he remains the type who can start and finish a move against this opposition.
Diedhou and Diony started up front in Cardiff but with Reid potentially returning to the attack here, I can’t help feeling the boss may try something new, with Kent perhaps running and causing havoc in behind the striker.
Having played in midfield recently, the return of Pack should allow the top scorer to move back up front and that alone adds another few percent to Bristol City’s chances of a win in my opinion.
