Jansson And Vieira To Start: Strongest 4-2-3-1 Leeds United Line-Up To Face Reading

Leeds are on a 7-match unbeaten run right now and go to Reading on Saturday evening for what promises to be an almighty clash.

The sudden emergence of Liam Cooper, having been excellent against Brighton and called up by Scotland for the recent international games, has given Garry Monk a selection problem at the back. Personally, I think he’ll resist the temptation to stick with the youngster though and therefore Pontus Jansson and Kemar Roofe will come back in the following 4-2-3-1 formation:

GK – Rob Green

The former England man is an ever-present for Leeds this season and will undoubtedly start again between the sticks.

RB – Gaetano Berardi

In the absence of Luke Ayling, the former Swiss international has played 19 times in the Championship this season and brings valuable experience.

CB – Kyle Bartley

A rock at the back for Leeds this season, Bartley will once again marshal the defence at the Madejski.

CB – Pontus Jansson

There’s no doubt Liam Cooper has a massive future, however, I’ve little doubt that the Swede, arguably Leeds’ best player this season, will regain his place at the back.

LB – Charlie Taylor

Another of this year’s top performers at this level, Taylor is sure to start and will have a tough task in maintaining his strong form against a potent home attack.

CM – Liam Bridcutt

The former Brighton and Sunderland man’s career has seemed to have shot by (he’s 27 already) but he brings great steadiness and experience to the midfield and will go again.

CM – Ronaldo Vieira

Perhaps a tight call between him and Kalvin Phillips, I reckon Vieira will just get the nod.  At 18 he’s little more than a prodigy, though his reputation is growing and I think he’ll be trusted again at the centre of the park for the visitors.

AMR – Hadi Sacko

Another of Leeds’ on-loan players, Sacko has been impressive this season with 2 goals and 4 assists in 33 Championship games.

AMC – Kemar Roofe

The former Oxford man is really coming of age now in this Leeds attack. His movement and pace make him a big threat for Reading.

AML – Alfonso Pedraza

Despite the availability of countryman Pablo Hernandez, Pedraza seems to be en vogue at Leeds right now and Garry Monk has no qualms about playing young players.  Pedraza’s greater pace can be a big asset on the break against an attack-minded Reading.

ST – Chris Wood

The most obvious selection; no team is the same without their main goal-getter and Chris Wood in that respect has been sensational. 24 goals in 36 games this season is an outstanding return and Reading will do well to keep him quiet.
