Liverpool’s legendary defender Jamie Carragher announced his decision to bid adieu to the game at the end of this season after having served the Reds loyally for more than 15 years. It was rumoured that the defender would continue to hang around football either in a management role or take up football punditry.
According to daily mail, Sky Sports are looking to bring in Carragher as a match day analysis at the start of the next season. Having already lined-up of ex-professionals including Jamie Redknapp and Gary Neville, it looks like Sky Sports are on a role to bring in their next pundit. With Gary Neville having a successful season as an expert analysis Carragher could only add to their strength.
However, Sky Sports may face competition from new comers BT Vision who have acquired the rights of telecasting next season’s league campaign are also interested in signing the Liverpool man.
Sports media commentator Charles Sale, talking to the Daily mail said:
“All the major networks are keen to employ the Liverpool defender as a pundit but Sky are expected to pull out the stops to land him, with station boss Barney Francis desperate to see off any bid from new rivals BT Sport.”
However, England manager Roy Hodgson had a different opinion on Jamie’s future.
“Having worked with Jamie Carragher, it was always evident that he was a model professional who gave everything he had for club and country,” said the England manager. After retirement, I am sure he will march quickly up the coaching ladder and become one of the country’s top young coaches.”
It is up-to Carragher to decide which side of the game he wants to pursue once he is done with his Liverpool job. Carragher, helped Liverpool win the 2005 Champions League as well as two FA Cups and three League Cups during a 16-year spell at the club.
