It’s Sad To See Skrtel Play Like This: Liverpool Player Ratings vs Swansea

Liverpool Player Ratings vs Swansea

Liverpool’s preparations for the UEFA Europa League clash against Villarreal led them to field their youngest ever Premier League side against Swansea but unlike the game against Bournemouth where they won, the Reds lost this tie which helped the Welsh side secure another season in the Premier League.

Swansea needed just one to mathematically assure safety but got all three as Liverpool barely got off the blocks and were two goals down thanks to Andre Ayew and Jack Cork. Christian Benteke did get a goal back for the Reds but Ayew restored their two-goal lead.

Liverpool’s hopes of making a comeback were all but over when Brad Smith was sent off for two bookable challenges. Jurgen Klopp will have a lot of fresh players for the Europa League tie, winning that competition would be the only way Liverpool are back in the Champions League next season.

With such a young squad, we provide the player ratings for the team:

Danny Ward – 6/10

The youngster was given another game in place of Simon Mignolet but he cannot be blamed for any of the goals he conceded.

Nathaniel Clyne – 7/10

Clyne might not have had the greatest game but he still was one of the better players in the side.

Martin Skrtel – 3/10

It is sad seeing someone who has been at Liverpool for so long play so horribly. Skrtel was at fault for a couple of the goals and it seems his time at Liverpool is coming to an end.

Dejan Lovren – 5/10

The Croatian will start in the game against Villarreal but he needs to do much better with Kolo Toure than what he did against Swansea.

Brad Smith – 3/10

Smith had impressed many with the chances he got in the team but he was poor today and was constantly in trouble by the Swansea attack. He also got sent off in the game.

Kevin Stewart – 6/10

Stewart ended the game as the right back but was pretty decent in midfield too for the Reds.

Pedro Chirivella – 4/10

Pedro didn’t have the best game for the side and was substituted at half-time.

Sheyi Ojo – 6/10

The youngster was again the bright spark for the team but nothing too great to half an effect on the game, though he did help set up Benteke.

Jordon Ibe – 4/10

Another poor showing by the youngster, it seems Ibe is stuck on one gear and cannot shift out.

Philippe Coutinho – 4/10

Was there any point in playing Coutinho when such an important game is on the horizon? He was subbed off before the start of the second half and barely did anything of notice in the first 45.

Daniel Sturridge – 5/10

Sturridge couldn’t really do much in the game but he did show a few flashes of brilliance.

Substitutes:

Christian Benteke – 6/10

The Belgian scored the only goal of the game and was Liverpool’s best attacker.

Lucas Leiva – 5/10

Lucas was brought on at half-time but even he could not do much to stem Swansea’s attack.

Cameron Brannagan – NA
