How Tottenham Can Strike Gold By Offloading Moussa Sissoko

Mauricio Pochettino seems determined to improve the quality of his Tottenham Hotspur squad as he is looking to make a number of changes this summer. He is looking to bring in some of the finest talents in to the club but is also ready to let go of a few players who have under-performed. One player who is at the top of the exit list is French star Moussa Sissoko.

A £30m buy for the Spurs on the deadline day of the previous summer window, Sissoko had a tremendous season with the Magpies who were relegated at the end of 2015/16 season. However, he never even came close to repeating the feat in London as he time and again failed to have any kind of impact on the first team.

As a result, he found first-team chances hard to come by and it is now understood that Pochettino wants him out after just a season. The 27-year old, who has already made more than 50 appearances for the French national side, is a versatile player and is experienced as well. However, he has just 4 assists to show for in 34 appearances for the club, and has been out of form the entire campaign.

At his age, he still has plenty of football left in him and it is already reported that he is wanted back in his homeland. According to reports, Ligue1 outfit Marseille are ready to make a move for the 27-year old this summer.

The report suggests that the French outfit are convinced that Sissoko is the right man to take them forward and are ready to meet his valuation. However, knowing Spurs owner Daniel Levy, we can comfortably assume that he is not going to let the midfielder go without recouping most of the £30m he spent on the player last summer.

Sissoko is also on hefty wages and selling him will reduce the burden on the club and also free up space for a new face. But his lack of form might make it difficult for Spurs to offload him this summer. It was thought that he might not have too many suitors but here is Marseille, fine and ready to negotiate.

The four years left on the player’s five-year contract with the club will also make him expensive and Tottenham will not be able to find a club that would be ready to splash insane cash on him this summer. Sissoko is a dead rubber at his current club and is of no use to Pochettino next season. So Levy’s first job will be to find a suitor. But if he is able to, and can negotiate the right price, then Spurs will have dodged a bullet. And if they are able to recoup more than £20m, it would be nothing less than gold for the London club.
