Is This Manchester United’s Best XI After Falcao’s Return?

Midfield: Carrick – Herrera – Di Maria – Mata

Daley Blind keeps things ticking nicely for United, but Carrick is still the heartbeat of the team. Carrick’s ability to keep things tight in midfield as well as the vision to play that forward pass makes him an invaluable asset. Ander Herrera is a busy player and always looking to link up with his teammates. With Carrick in the team to provide the balance, Herrera’s attacking instincts can come to the fore.

Di Maria has to play centrally. United’s best player and the one most likely to create a chance. And in a free role in the midfield three, the Argentine can really flourish. Juan Mata would play at the tip of the diamond and look to spray those forward passes and work those little triangles with Di Maria and Rooney.

Forwards: Rooney, Falcao.

Wayne Rooney chipped the keeper delightfully at the Emirates to show that despite his desire to put in a selfless shift for the team and do his defensive duties, the attacking instincts are still intact. Rademel Falcao, when fit, can be a beast in the box. Great finisher, holds the ball up well and a tremendous header of the ball, the Columbian would be licking his lips at feeding on the service from the likes of Di Maria, Mata and Herrera.
