Is This Atletico Madrid Forward A Good Option For Arsenal To Sign?

With Arsenal having already made a big money singing in Granit Xhaka, it shouldn’t be a surprise that the Gunners are now trying to fix up those positions which often have had problems for them. The London club seem to be missing another striker, a world class one in their ranks and that has been a problem for them for a couple of seasons.

Olivier Giroud is not the right man for every game and even though he does average a goal every other game, there is a need for a better class of forward at Arsenal and while big names are constantly linked with the team, relatively unknown player Luciano Vietto seems to be the latest forward that could be on Arsenal’s radar.

Vietto was a pretty big name when he moved from Racing Club in Argentina to Villareal in 2014 but his form has dipped dramatically for his newest club, Atletico Madrid. While the 22-year-old Argentine scored 20 goals in his first season at the Madrigal for Villareal, he was sold to Atletico the next season and only scored three goals all season, with just one coming in the league.

It wasn’t for a lack of chances though; Vietto started in 16 games for Madrid but barely got on the score sheet. Arsenal needs someone who is going to link up well with the rest of the attack and unfortunately, Vietto does not seem to be that kind of player, at the moment.

He can play wide right but the attacker will have a lot of issues when battling with Alexis Sanchez, Theo Walcott and the likes, so he probably won’t be able to take them out of the side either. Vietto’s playing style also is something that might work well at Arsenal due to the fact that he is great at passing and dribbling but that will not hide the fact that he isn’t great at aerial duels and also isn’t the best at scoring at all.

Arsenal needs a proven goal scorer and that isn’t what the Argentine is. The Gunners might have a large war chest to spend but they should use it wisely rather than wasting it on potential. The Gunners have been smart with some of their signings in the past. They need someone like a Mesut Ozil, Alexis Sanchez or even a Petr Cech who can fill the void that the Gunners have had in their front line and they should do a bit more scouting rather than taking on a player who struggled so much last season.
