Is The Liverpool Team Finally Ready For Jurgen Klopp’s Geggenpressing?

Jurgen Klopp

Jurgen Klopp might not be smashing transfer records this season for the Reds but he has slowly worked around the transfer window and has now signed Wijnaldum from Newcastle United.

The Reds certainly have a large enough squad to deal with only the domestic cup competitions and the Premier League, they will not be playing in any European competition this season, and if the club can keep most of their players this season, it could be a good campaign for the Merseyside club.

Ragnar Klavan, Joel Matip, Marko Grujic, Sadio Mane, Loris Karius, Alex Manniger and the Dutch star, that is a good number of players and the fact that players such as Jon Flanagan and Danny Ings should return to the side after coming back from long-term injuries does mean that the Reds have a lot of players to use this season.

The biggest change the Reds had to deal with last season was the Gegenpressing of Jurgen Klopp and after a few games, it did take its toll on the side. Some of the performances were brilliant but some of them were quite poor and that is what plagued the Premier League side more than anything.

This time around Jurgen Klopp has a full and proper preseason and transfer window to work with but can the Reds be prepared for the madness of Gegenpressing this season?

Fewer games, more players and a mad manager

Liverpool have a huge squad at the moment and they could theoretically put out three different squads of 11 players each this season. Of course, a few players will be leaving such as Mario Balotelli, Christian Benteke and Joe Allen but the lack of European games and travelling should help the side out in their quest for Champions League football next season.

More than just playing good football, the gap in between match days would ensure that the Reds can play every weekend with a lot of energy and put up with the Gegenpressing tactics that Jurgen Klopp loves to employ during some of the bigger matches.

The side has also invested in players that Klopp would know about and he seems to be picking up players from Germany or those who can add quality to the Premier League side. Sadio Mane knows English football really well while the likes of Marko Grujic and Loris Karius are set to star for the side, or at least what the preseason games have shown us so far.

The energy and the feel good times are back at Liverpool this season and maybe it could be another season when the Reds fight it out for the Premier League title. The Reds might have the manager and now it is time for the players to perform, Gegenpressing should not be an issue for the Liverpool team this season and they have more than enough players to deal with it.
