Ineffective Morata: The Bad And The Worst Rated Chelsea Stars From The 1-0 Loss vs West Ham

Full Time: West Ham United 1-0 Chelsea

Antonio Conte’s Chelsea fell to their fourth loss of the season, this time against a struggling West Ham United as their short trip to the London Stadium ended in a 1-0 defeat. Marko Arnautovic gave the hosts an early lead with some swift footwork and a neat finish as the Hammers managed to hold on to a slender lead and steal all three points.

They still stay in the relegation zone but the result in the Merseyside derby could push Chelsea to the 4th place at the end of the gameweek. Alvaro Morata and Eden Hazard missed a couple of half chances but that was all Chelsea could produce as they struggled to break down Moyes’ side. Here’s how Chelsea players fared on the day:

Chelsea Player Ratings

Thibaut Courtois (5)

Was hardly tested apart from the goal, which he did not have too much of a chance against.

Cesar Azpilicueta (5)

Kept the West Ham wingers honest all game but failed to command the game and was mostly on the back foot.

Andreas Christensen (5)

Was frustrated by an industrious Michail Antonio as he often found himself behind the ball and chasing the opponents.

Gary Cahill (5)

Was ever-present on the left-hand side of the backline, sniffing attacks out early but should have done more to stop the only goal of the game.

Marcos Alonso (4)

Tried to provide width on the left flank but was off his game and lost the ball all too frequently for his side’s liking.

Cesc Fabregas (4)

Probably in his poorest game of the season, Fabregas failed to create even one chance of note, which cost his side in the end.

Tiemoue Bakayoko (3)

Offered completely nothing at both ends of the field as he often slowed down Chelsea’s attacks and was caught out of possession on numerous occasions.

N Golo Kante (5)

Was industrious and busy in his approach on the field but he was made responsible to create chances for his side, which was not really his thing.

Davide Zappacosta (3)

Had a nightmare trying to mark Masuaku on the flank and did very little offensively on a poor outing for the Italian.

Eden Hazard (4)

His side were waiting for him to create something but he was far from his usual self and also missed probably one of the best chances of the game.

Alvaro Morata (3)

Was reportedly not fit enough to start this game and it showed as he failed to create space for himself and struggled with the lack of supply from the midfield.

Substitutes

Pedro (5)

Was subbed on at halftime as Conte shifted to a different system and though he started brightly, he could not do much to alter the scoreline.

Victor Moses (4)

Came on with enough of the game left but failed to create even a single chance.

Willian (N/A)

Added some urgency late in the game, but that proved futile.
