Predicted Wigan Athletic line-up to face Bolton in the Championship

Wigan Athletic will lock horns with Bolton Wanderers on Saturday as Paul Cook hopes to pick up a win in the Championship.

The Latics produced a solid performance in midweek against Blackburn Rovers, as goals from Gary Roberts, James Vaughan and Callum McManaman gave them a much-needed victory.

Bolton, meanwhile, are languishing in the relegation zone and come into Saturday’s game on the back of a 1-0 defeat at Sheffield Wednesday.

Team News

Paul Cook could miss Nick Powell for Saturday’s game after the player tweaked his hamstring against Blackburn. The Wigan Athletic manager will also be without the likes of Gavin Massey, Antonne Robinson, Michael Jacobs and Chey Dunkley.

Probable Wigan Athletic XI

Formation: 4-4-1-1

Manager: Paul Cook

Christian Walton (GK)

Walton is Cook’s first-choice in goal. He is expected to start against Bolton.

Dan Burn

Reece James (RB)

Reece James has been a consistent performer for the Latics. Given his form, he is sure to start at the weekend.

Cedric Kipre (CB)

Strong as a nail, Kipre will look to keep things tight at the back against Bolton.

Dan Burn (CB)

Burn is a towering defender who is an asset on both the ends of the pitch.

Kal Naismith (LB)

Naismith has been used as a makeshift left-back in the last two games and he has done well. He is set to retain his place for Saturday’s game.

Nathan Byrne (RM)

Byrne will look to test Bolton’s shaky backline with his pace and dribbling skills.

Lee Evans (CM)

Evans is a clever operator of the ball and can play the defence-splitting passes from the middle of the park.

Sam Morsy (CM)

Morsy adds a lot of bite and energy to Wigan’s engine room. The Egyptian is a crucial cog in Cook’s team and is certain to start at home against Bolton.

Gary Roberts (LM)

Scored a goal in the 3-1 win over Blackburn in midweek and will be hungry to get on the score-sheet again as quickly as possible.

Josh Windass (SS)

Windass is a creative player who will look to cause all sorts of problems for the Bolton defenders.

James Vaughan (ST)

Vaughan could get the nod ahead of Grigg to lead Wigan’s attack against Bolton at the DW Stadium.
