Predicted Rangers line-up to face Rapid Wien in the Europa League

Rangers head to the Allianz Stadium to face Rapid Wien on Thursday, needing a win to seal their spot in the knockout stages of the Europa League.

Steven Gerrard’s men sit third in the Group G standings with six points from their five games. Rangers defeated Rapid Wien 3-1 at Ibrox and will be looking for a similar result as they target a place in the knockout stage.

Rapid Wien, on the other hand, occupy the second spot and holds a one-point advantage over Thursday’s visitors.

Team News

Ryan Kent returned from injury for last week’s game at Dundee only to be replaced after 45 minutes due to some discomfort in his knee, and hence, remains a doubt for the Europa League game. But Borna Barisic has become fit and made a substitute appearance in the 1-1 draw with Dundee.

Meanwhile, Daniel Candeias will miss the Rapid Wien game after he was controversially sent off against Villarreal.

Probable Rangers XI

Formation: 4-3-3

Manager: Steven Gerrard

Allan McGregor (GK)

McGregor is the undisputed no.1 in goal for Rangers and should start on Thursday as well.

James Tavernier (RB)

This is a make or break game for Rangers in the Europa League, meaning Tavernier has to lead the team from the front.

Connor Goldson

Connor Goldson (CB)

Goldson is one of the first names on the team sheet for the Gers. He is a likely starter for Thursday’s game.

Joe Worrall (CB)

Worrall is a confident young defender who needs a run of games to get back his confidence.

Andy Halliday (LB)

Halliday has done very well at left-back when Barisic was out injured. He deserves to keep his place in the team.

Ryan Jack (CDM)

Jack is the player that offers a layer of protection to the backline and brings stability to the team. He should start against Rapid Wien.

Scott Arfield (RCM)

Arfield is a hardworking player, who will give a different dimension to the Rangers attack.

Ovie Ejaria (LCM)

Ejaria brings creativity to this Rangers team. Blessed with a good technique and ability to pick out a pass, he should start at Vienna.

Eros Grezda (RW)

Grezda is a pacy customer who can give the Rapid Wien defenders a run for their money on Thursday.

Glenn Middleton (LW)

Another attacker who has the capability to hurt Rapid Wien with explosive pace and direct approach. On the left, he is a certain starter.

Alfredo Morelos (ST)

Morelos has been Rangers’ chief source of goals this season and he’ll have to be at the top of his game to guide his club to the next round of the Europa League.
