Manchester City vs West Ham predictions: Manchester City line-up

After a difficult 120 minutes against Chelsea in the final of the Carabao Cup, Manchester City lifted the cup, thanks to a 4-3 win on penalties. The champions’ focus returns to the Premier League as Liverpool are just a point ahead of Guardiola’s side.

Team news

Aymeric Laporte and Fernandinho are City’s casualties from the game against Chelsea and are massive doubts for the midweek. Gabriel Jesus and John Stones are also unlikely to feature with thigh and groin injuries respectively.

Benjamin Mendy and Claudio Bravo are both ruled out but Fabian Delph has a small chance of recovering from illness and making the squad on Wednesday.

Probable Manchester City XI

Formation: 4-3-3

Manager: Pep Guardiola

Ederson (GK)

The Brazilian saved Jorginho’s penalty and set City on their way in the penalty shootout on Sunday. He should start again against West Ham.

Kyle Walker (RB)

City’s undisputed number one and one of the best right-backs in the league, Walker should start on Wednesday.

Nicolas Otamendi (CB)

Otamendi should continue in central defence after a decent showing against Chelsea on Sunday.

Vincent Kompany (CB)

With injuries to Stones and Laporte, Pep Guardiola has to play the skipper next to Otamendi on Wednesday.

Oleksandr Zinchenko(LB)

The 22-year-old had an outstanding game against Chelsea and is set to continue there ahead of the likes of Fabian Delph and Danilo.

Ilkay Gundogan (CM)

The former Borussia Dortmund man has been in fine form this season for the champions. Gundogan was benched for the game against Chelsea but is expected to return to the starting line-up.

David Silva (CM)

The 33-year-old might be at the twilight of his career but is still an incredible footballer. His vision and ability to combine with the forwards will be crucial for the champions.

Bernardo Silva (CM)

Arguably City’s most underrated player over the last few games, Silva should start centrally and play a free role in the middle of the park.

Leroy Sane (LW)

The German came off the bench in the final on Sunday and missed a penalty. The miss didn’t prove to be costly and the German is expected to return to the line-up on the left flank.

Raheem Sterling (RW)

The scorer of the winning penalty on Sunday has been brilliant ever since Pep Guardiola took over at City and his pace on the wings will be vital on Wednesday.

Sergio Aguero (ST)

Manchester City’s top scorer this season is their only available striker now due to an injury to Gabriel Jesus. He is expected to start up top for the champions against West Ham.
