Manchester City vs Tottenham predictions: Tottenham line-up

Tottenham started their Premier League season with a comfortable 3-1 win over Aston Villa at home.

Spurs had fallen behind to John McGinn’s opener but rallied back thanks to Tanguy Ndombele’s screamer after half-time.

Harry Kane got a brace in the win, with Spurs dominating the second half. However, things don’t get easy for Mauricio Pochettino’s men as they face Manchester City on Saturday.

Harry Kane

The Cityzens were at their clinical best away at West Ham. Raheem Sterling scored a hat-trick as Pep Guardiola’s side started their Premier League defence with a 5-0 win.

The match-up at the Etihad pits two of the best sides in the Premier League, and even early on in the season, a win can provide a morale boost for the remainder of the campaign.

Predicted Tottenham XI

Formation: 4-3-1-2

Manager: Mauricio Pochettino

Hugo Lloris (GK)

The Spurs captain was barely troubled by Villa in the previous game, but it will be a different test against City on Saturday.

Kyle Walker-Peters (RB)

Walker-Peters has to be wary of the threat possessed by City’s wingers. The youngster did well against Villa but going up against Raheem Sterling or Riyad Mahrez will be a big test for the Englishman.

Toby Alderweireld (CB)

Villa couldn’t get a lot out of the Belgian centre-back but Alderweireld will have his hands full facing City’s attackers.

Danny Rose

Davinson Sanchez (CB)

It was a surprise seeing Jan Vertonghen left out from the side and Sanchez did a decent enough job against Villa, meaning he should start on Saturday.

Danny Rose (LB)

Rose, like Walker-Peters, has to be at his best defensively to keep City’s attackers at bay. The Englishman is also one of the best attacking left-backs in the country and needs to threaten the opposition defence too.

Harry Winks (CM)

The English midfielder had a quiet game against Villa but did his bit for the team. However, he needs to be at his best in recycling possession against a team of City’s calibre.

Moussa Sissoko (CM)

Sissoko also did his bit of putting pressure on the opposition in the previous game, and his role will be important when going up against the might of City.

Tanguy Ndombele (CM)

Ndombele scored a fantastic goal on debut and should improve further in the coming days. The Frenchman has to dominate the opposition midfield on Saturday if Spurs have any chance of winning the clash.

Christian Eriksen (CAM)

The Dane changed the game after he came on as a substitute and should start in place of Erik Lamela. Eriksen could be the key to unlocking City’s defence and he has to play at his best on Saturday.

Lucas Moura

Lucas Moura (ST)

Moura was handed a start in the previous game too but didn’t really impress alongside Kane. The Brazilian should keep his spot in the team as his runs can cause problems to City’s defence.

Harry Kane (ST)

Kane looks in great form after a proper summer of rest. The Englishman scored a brace against Villa, and he is one of the keys to Tottenham defeating City on Saturday.
