Predicted Tottenham Hotspur line-up to face Cardiff in the Premier League

Cardiff City will host Tottenham Hotspur at the Cardiff City Stadium on New Year’s Day, with Spurs looking to get back to winning ways.

Mauricio Pochettino’s Tottenham Hotspur suffered a shock 3-1 defeat to Wolves on Saturday at Wembley. The defeat saw Spurs fall to third place behind Manchester City, who bounced back with an impressive victory at Southampton.

Cardiff, meanwhile, come into this game on the back of a morale-boosting 1-0 victory over Leicester City.

Team News

Tottenham Hotspur will be without injured midfield trio Eric Dier, Mousa Dembele and Victor Wanyama. Erik Lamela has a calf problem while Vincent Janssen remains out with a foot injury.

Meanwhile, Jan Vertonghen and Serge Aurier continue to work their way back towards fitness.

Jan Vertonghen

Probable Tottenham Hotspur XI

Formation: 4-2-3-1

Manager: Mauricio Pochettino

Hugo Lloris (GK)

Lloris will be disappointed after conceding three goals against Wolves. He will look to redeem himself at Cardiff.

Kieran Trippier (RB)

Trippier should keep his place at right-back against Cardiff. However, he will have to be defensively diligent on Tuesday.

Kieran Trippier

Davinson Sanchez (CB)

Sanchez had a poor game against Wolves and will look to put in a stellar display in Tuesday’s game in South Wales.

Toby Alderweireld (CB)

Hard as a nail, Alderweireld will be tasked with keeping the towering Patterson at bay on New Year’s Day.

Danny Rose (LB)

Pochettino could opt for Rose instead of Davies at left-back. Rose is more dynamic and quicker than Davies and against Cardiff’s physical attackers, the England international is expected to get the nod.

Moussa Sissoko

Moussa Sissoko (CM)

Sissoko has been a player reborn this season. With injuries to Dier, Dembele and Wanyama, the Frenchman is expected to start again in central midfield.

Harry Winks (CM)

Winks and Sissoko are working brilliantly in the middle of the park for Tottenham Hotspur and Pochettino would be wise to not tweak it.

Lucas Moura (RW)

A pacy customer, Moura will look to create problems for the Cardiff defence with his direct running.

Christian Eriksen (CAM)

The creative hub of Tottenham Hotspur, Eriksen will look to deliver the goods on Tuesday as Spurs aim for all three points in South Wales.

Son Heung-min (LW)

Given his current form, Son is one of the first names on the team sheet. The South Korean will aim to get on the scoresheet against Cardiff.

Harry Kane (ST)

Leading Spurs’ attack will be none other than Kane, who has 13 league goals so far this term.
