Aston Villa vs Derby County predictions – Aston Villa line-up
Aston Villa are just one step away from a place in the Premier League next season after a dramatic victory on penalties over West Brom in the playoff semifinal second-leg.
Dean Smith will have to continue their good form for one last time this season and any mistake would lead to yet another campaign in the Championship.
Thomas Carroll, Jordan Lyden and Orjan Nyland have all been ruled out of the final at Wembley, while James Chester could make a return to the squad. The biggest issue for Dean Smith will be Axel Tuanzebe’s injury and the Manchester United loanee is a massive doubt for the big game.
Probable Aston Villa XI
Manager: Dean Smith
Jed Steer (GK)
Steer is one of the biggest reasons why Aston Villa are where they are and he should start ahead of Kalinic on Monday.
Ahmed Elmohamady (RB)
The former Hull City full-back will need to have a solid game, both in attack and defensively, to help his side go through.
Axel Tuanzebe (CB)
The Manchester United loanee hobbled off with an injury but Smith and Villa fans will be hoping for his return. If Tuanzebe is fit, he starts.
Tyrone Mings (CB)
The Bournemouth man has finally found his feet after a ton of injuries. He has done well so far for the Villains and deserves to keep his place.
Neil Taylor (LB)
Taylor will need to have a strong game on the left side to deny Derby’s fluid attacks.
Glenn Whelan (CDM)
The veteran will have to bring all his experience into play on Monday to help his side return to the Premier League next season.
Anwar El Ghazi (LW)
The winger looked a constant threat in both legs of the semifinal and he should come up with a similar performance in the final on Monday.
Conor Hourihane (CAM)
The 28-year-old’s goal in the first leg is one of the biggest reasons why Villa were able to get the better of the Baggies and he has to start again at Wembley.
Jack Grealish (CAM)
Villa’s gem in midfield, Grealish’s creativity will be massively important against the Rams on Monday.
Albert Adomah (RW)
Adomah’s delivery from the right-flank will be of huge importance and he needs to get them right to help push his side past the hurdle at Wembley.
