Manchester City vs Cardiff City predictions: Manchester City line-up
A 2-0 win over Fulham saw Manchester City return to the top of the Premier League table but a late goal saw Liverpool surge past them. But given the fact that Manchester City have a game in hand, Pep Guardiola and company have a chance to get their lead back.
They face Cardiff City mid-week and have the chance take pole position even if it is by one point. The fact that Liverpool don’t play until the weekend should play a part in that but it’s City’s game to lose. Cardiff City did not have the best weekend, with offside calls going against them.
But that being said, the Bluebirds are not in great form, having won just one out of their last five games. This gives Manchester City a chance to pick up yet another win and move up the ladder.
Kevin De Bruyne and Fernandinho returned to the fold against Fulham but unfortunately, Sergio Aguero walked off. The Argentinean asked for the substitution just before the 60th minute mark, and could miss the game.
Pep Guardiola revealed in an interview with the BBC, that the club doesn’t know what is wrong with him yet.
Probable Manchester City XI
Manager: Pep Guardiola
Yet another clean sheet for the Brazilian would take him to 15 for the season, just two behind Alisson Becker.
Kyle Walker (RB)
A consistent presence in the Manchester City side, the former Tottenham man has been a key part of Pep Guardiola’s team.
Aymeric Laporte (CB)
A revelation this season, the Frenchman has been among Manchester City’s best players and deserves a consistent spot in the team.
John Stones (CB)
The English international didn’t make the final cut against Fulham, but he’s now fit and should make it against Cardiff City.
Oleksandr Zinchenko (LB)
Another star of the season, the Ukrainian midfielder has adjusted brilliantly to his new position and should keep his place, even if Benjamin Mendy is fit.
Ilkay Gundogan (CM)
An able replacement for Fernandinho, despite the Brazilian making an appearance against Fulham, there is a chance that Guardiola might opt to rest Fernandinho.
Bernardo Silva (CM)
He should be among the nominees for Player of Season. The Portuguese international needs to keep his place.
Phil Foden (CM)
With FA Cup looming over their shoulders, there is a chance that David Silva is rested and young Foden gets a chance to impress.
Leroy Sane (RW)
The German had a wonderful international break but was far too tired to play against Fulham.
Gabriel Jesus (ST)
While he has struggled this season, the Brazilian should find his way back into the team given that Sergio Aguero is a doubt for the game.
