Here’s How Newcastle United Could Line Up With Gorka Guruzeta In The Team

Gorka Guruzeta is the latest name to emerge from the list of coveted youngsters being targeted by clubs in January. He may not be playing top-flight football for Athletic Bilbao but his form this season and the goal against Manchester United U-23 side proves that he boasts of immense potential and talent. Hence, it comes as no surprise that Newcastle have taken note of him.

As far as Benitez’s current squad is concerned, there is a shocking lack of pace and creativity up front. The likes of Aleksandar Mitrovic, Ayoze Perez and Joselu have failed to put up consistent displays up front which has cost the Magpies to an extent. Under Benitez, the club have actually started performing well but with insufficient contributions from their strikers, they have truly lacked that edge which can propel them towards greatness.

While some may argue and call Guruzeta as inexperienced, the fact remains that he is definitely far from being one of the best or most prolific strikers around. However, what makes him a good sign is his ability to influence the attack to make things happen. He has a fantastic work-rate and can help the likes of Mitrovic and Joselu in being more productive.

Moreover, his versatility can be helpful for Benitez. One of the most impressive features of him is the fact that he can play across any position in the offensive line – an asset that can prove to be very useful in the Premier League. He is technically sound as well, so let’s take a look at how the player could fit in at Newcastle.

Here’s how Benitez could deploy him.

Guruzeta In Newcastle’s 4-4-2 Lineup

Guruzeta (CF)

In this formation, Guruzeta will lineup as one of the strikers. Since he is quite inexperienced, he can do a lot better up front with another player. His pace and technical skill can help in orchestrating attacks. As of now, both of Benitez’s options are failing to deliver results, but that could change if he signs Guruzeta.

Mitrovic or Joselu (CF)

Benitez cannot play with a central striker given the dearth of power up front. However, if he signs Guruzeta, the manager can hope for either of these two to establish a good partnership up front with the youngster. Joselu often struggles due to lack of chances and Guruzeta can most certainly help him with that.
