Championship team of the week for matchday 17 featuring Sheffield Wednesday and West Brom stars

Another weekend of Championship football went by before the November international break. There were a few surprising results in the offing that changed the dynamic of the table. The weekend began with the Sheffield derby, which had dram right till the death.

While West Brom thrashed Leeds United to give Marcelo Bielsa and his men a reality check, Aston Villa impressed many with a comfortable 3-0 away win at Derby County. The game between Millwall and Norwich City was a real humdinger, with the latter winning and reaching the summit of the standings.

Middlesbrough are second, just two points behind the Canaries. Leeds United, Sheffield United, West Brom and Derby County complete the four playoff spots.

Manager of the weekend – Dean Smith

Cameron Dawson (Sheffield Wednesday) (GK)

The goalkeeper made a penalty save in the derby on Friday. He had a good game overall as well.

Dael Fry (Middlesbrough) (RB)

Fry was as impactful as a right-back could be in a game of football. His forward runs caused trouble to the opposition defenders. He tracked back as well.

Chris Basham (Sheffield United) (CB)

Kept a clean sheet in the derby and was a commanding presence at the back for the Blades.

Tom Lees

Tom Lees (Sheffield Wednesday) (CB)

The Owls skipper hasn’t been at his best in the past few weeks. However, he was immense for them on Friday.

Matt Grimes (Swansea City) (LB)

The versatile Grimes stood his ground well when Bolton tried to expose him defensively. Moved to the midfield and made some good tackles.

Kamil Grosicki (Hull City) (LW)

Scored the third goal for the Tigers and was an ever-present menace for the Birmingham defenders.

John McGinn (Aston Villa) (CM)

Scored a goal, assisted one and shored up the Villa midfield against a tough Derby County team. Phenomenal performance.

Matt Phillips

Matt Phillips (West Brom) (CM)

His work-ethic and running power couldn’t be matched by Leeds United players. Scored the second of the four goals netted by the Baggies on Saturday.

Gwion Edwards (Ipswich Town) (RW)

The winger scored the opener against Reading and was a constant threat to the defenders.

Fraizer Campbell (Hull City) (ST)

Campbell scored a brace in a frantic game against Birmingham City. He is slowly regaining his scoring touch for the Tigers.

Yakou Meite (Reading) (ST)

The striker scored a brace against Ipswich and did well to keep the defenders on their toes.
