Predicted Tottenham Line-up To Face Barnsley In The EFL Cup

Tottenham Hotspur will look to register their second home win of the season across all competitions, when they take on Championship side Barnsley in the third round of the Carabao Cup, at the Wembley Stadium, on Tuesday night.

The North Londoners haven’t had the best of results at home this season, having lost to Chelsea and drawn against Burnley and Swansea City in the Premier League. The only win they have registered this season at England’s international stadium came in the form of a 3-1 victory over Borussia Dortmund in the UEFA Champions League. Mauricio Pochettino will be hoping to address that against the Tykes.

Team News

Midfielder Victor Wanyama is set to miss out again, while Erik Lamela and Danny Rose continue to remain absent for the Lilywhites. Winger Georges-Kevin N’Koudou is also a doubt for the game. Ben Davies missed the weekend encounter due to a knock, but is in line for a return to the playing XI.

Here’s how Tottenham could take the field against Barnsley at the Wembley:

Manager: Mauricio Pochettino

Formation: 4-2-3-1

Michel Vorm (GK)

The Dutchman could make his first appearance of the season between the sticks, replacing captain Hugo Lloris.

Kyle Walker-Peters (RB)

The youngster made his debut in the season opener against Newcastle United, but hasn’t played since then. Could be in line for his second appearance of the season.

Kyle Walker-Peters

Juan Foyth (CB)

The youngster who was signed from Estudiantes looks like a fine talent and could be handed his first-team debut, on Tuesday.

Jan Vertonghen (CB)

With the Belgian not available for the European games next week, he should be persisted with in the heart of the defence, as Poch will look to rest the likes of Toby Alderweireld and Davinson Sanchez.

Ben Davies (LB)

The Welshman missed the league encounter against Swansea over the weekend, but should be recalled for this midweek clash.

Eric Dier (CM)

The England international should keep his place as one of the two midfield pivots, with Victor Wanyama not having completely recovered yet.

Eric Dier (front)

Harry Winks (CM)

The academy graduate is another who could get his first start of the season, partnering Dier in the middle of the park ahead of Mousa Dembele.

Moussa Sissoko (RW)

The Frenchman is enjoying a bit of a revival at Tottenham this season. While he may not have played starring roles, the former Newcastle United man has put on improved displays and could get the nod again albeit on the right flank.

Dele Alli (CAM)

The 21-year old should continue to operate in behind the striker and look to pull the strings. Hasn’t had the best of starts and will be looking to address that.

Dele Alli and Son Heung-min

Son Heung-Min (LW)

On the left-hand side of the attacking midfield should be Son Heung-Min. The South Korean international has been a bright spark going forward and will be a major threat to the Tykes.

Fernando Llorente (ST)

Leading the line for the Lilywhites should be summer signing Fernando Llorente. He could be making his full debut for the club and would be hoping to mark the occasion with a goal or two.
