Predicted Liverpool Line-up To Face Leicester City In The EFL Cup

Liverpool will look to get things back on track when they tackle Leicester City in the third round of the Carabao Cup, at the King Power Stadium, on Tuesday.

It has been a forgetful week for the Reds, with results not going their way. Following their thrashing at the hands of Manchester City last weekend and the disappointment of a 2-2 draw against Sevilla in the UEFA Champions League, they were held to a 1-1 stalemate at home, by Burnley. Manager Jurgen Klopp will be hoping that his team get a win against the Foxes in the midweek.

Team News

Playmaker Philippe Coutinho, who made his first start of the season over the weekend, may miss out after he was taken off with a cramp on Saturday. Danny Ings is fit again and has returned to training, but Adam Lallana and Nathaniel Clyne remain unavailable for selection. Winger Sadio Mane remains absent due to suspension.

Here’s how Liverpool could line up against Craig Shakespeare’s men on Tuesday:

Manager: Jurgen Klopp

Formation: 4-3-3

Danny Ward (GK)

Both Simon Mignolet and Loris Karius have been rotated by the manager this season, but Danny Ward hasn’t featured at all and this game could mark his first appearance of the season.

Trent Alexander-Arnold (RB)

The youngster should feature at right-back for the Reds, with Clyne still absent for selection.

Dejan Lovren (CB)

Having played every minute of every game this season so far, Klopp could look to afford rest to Joel Matip, meaning Dejan Lovren may get the nod to lead the backline.

Joe Gomez (CB)

The youngster has extensively been used in a right-back role this season, but the cup tie could be a good opportunity to test him in his preferred centre-half role.

Alberto Moreno (LB)

The Spaniard was benched for the weekend game but could return to the starting setup at the expense of Andrew Robertson.

Alberto Moreno

Marko Grujic (CM)

The Serbian midfielder has played just 7 minutes of football this term, but that could change as Klopp might hand him his first start of the campaign.

Jordan Henderson (CM)

The captain was benched for the weekend game against Burnley but is likely to return to the starting XI, in order to offer some well-deserved rest to Emre Can.

Gini Wijnaldum (CM)

The Dutchman was another player who wasn’t used against Burnley and is likely to come into the line-up in place of Philippe Coutinho.

Mohamed Salah (RW)

The Egyptian forward has been in hot form for the Reds and has found the back of the net 5 times in all competitions. Should continue to feature on the right wing.

Dominic Solanke (ST)

The former Chelsea youngster hasn’t been handed a start this season yet. Could get the nod for this midweek game, ahead of Roberto Firmino and Daniel Sturridge.

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain (LW)

The summer recruit from Arsenal hasn’t really had a chance to make a statement since his arrival, having made three substitute appearances so far. Could get his big chance against Leicester, starting on the left-hand side of the attack.
