Predicted Leeds United Line-up To Face Sheffield United In The EFL Championship

Leeds United will look to bounce back from their midweek defeat in the Carabao Cup, when they face off against third-placed Sheffield United in the EFL Championship, at the Elland Road on Friday night.

The Whites exited from the Carabao Cup, following their 3-1 defeat at the hands of Premier League side Leicester City and will now solely be focused on getting their promotion bid back on track. They defeated Bristol City 3-0 in their last league outing and manager Thomas Christiansen will be hoping that his team put in another similar display against the Blades and close down the four-point gap between the two sides.

Team News

Cameron Borthwick-Jackson is unlikely to feature after he was withdrawn due to injury in the midweek clash against the Foxes. Fellow full-back Gaetano Berardi remains out as he serves the second of his three-match ban following his red card last weekend, while Caleb Ekuban remains sidelined due to injury as well. Stuart Dallas, who missed the Whites’ last two games due to family bereavement, is also unlikely to be involved.

Here’s how Leeds could take the field against Chris Wilder’s side on Friday:

Manager: Thomas Christiansen

Formation: 4-3-3

Andy Lonergan (GK)

The veteran stopper has replaced Felix Wiedwald as the first-choice for the league games and judging by how the German performed in the cup game earlier this week, Lonergan is set to stay as the preferred option for a long time.

Luke Ayling (RB)

The 26-year old did not start the midweek game, but played 45 minutes as a sub. Should return to the line-up on Friday night.

Luke Ayling

Matthew Pennington (CB)

The youngster on loan from Everton was immense against Bristol City last weekend. And following Pontus Jansson’s ordinary performance in the cup game, Pennington is likely to get a start here.

Liam Cooper (CB)

Another player who was rested for the midweek game, club captain Liam Cooper will also return for the clash against the Blades, with Conor Shaughnessy making way.

Vurnon Anita (LB)

With Berardi missing due to suspension and Borthwick-Jackson an injury doubt, Christiansen will have to go with Vurnon Anita at the left-back position.

Eunan O’Kane (CM)

The Irishman was another player who did not play any role on Tuesday night against Leicester. Should return to action at home against Sheffield United.

Ronaldo Vieira

Ronaldo Vieira (CM)

The young midfielder was brilliant last weekend against Bristol City and having played for only twenty minutes in the cup tie, he will be fresh coming into Friday’s clash.

Kalvin Phillips (CM)

The 21-year old excelled in the three-man midfield last weekend, which allowed him the license to get forward regularly. Will be looking to put in a similar performance at home.

Ezgjan Alioski (RW)

Has gone through a rough patch of late, but showed signs of recovery last weekend. Should come back into the starting setup, in place of Kemar Roofe.

Samu Saiz

Samu Saiz (LW)

The 26-year old has been the star of the season for the Whites. Deployed in a wide left role against Bristol City last weekend, Saiz was once again exceptional and could find himself in a similar position on Friday night.

Pierre-Michel Lasogga (ST)

The German striker has scored and assisted 4 goals each, in 7 Championship outings so far. Will look to add more when he leads the line against the Blades.
