Predicted Leeds United Line-up To Face Burnley In EFL Cup

Leeds United will travel to the Turf Moor this Tuesday night, as they gear up to take on Premier League side Burnley, in the third round of the Carabao EFL Cup.

The Whites have had a blistering start to the new campaign under the new management of Thomas Christiansen and are top of the table in the Championship, with their only defeat of the season so far, coming this past weekend in the form of a 1-0 loss to Millwall.

Their form in the cup ties too has been brilliant, having netted 9 goals in the previous two rounds, against Port Vale and Newport County, while letting in just two. However, the Clarets will pose a challenge of a different level and Leeds will be very much aware of it.

Team News

Injuries at the back will hamper Christiansen in the game, as Pontus Jansson is a doubt after being taken off in the game against Millwall due to a suspected hamstring strain. The Swede joins club captain Liam Cooper who is unlikely to be ready before the weekend due to a back problem, while on-loan defender Matthew Pennington too will not play a part. Caleb Ekuban remains the long-term absentee.

Here’s how Leeds could line up against Burnley on Tuesday:

Manager: Thomas Christiansen

Formation: 4-2-3-1

Felix Wiedwald (GK)

The manager could look to go with his best option in goal for the game against the Clarets, meaning Wiedwald would remain between the sticks.

Luke Ayling

Gaetano Berardi (RB)

Following Vurnon Anita’s poor display over the weekend, we could see Gaetano Berardi make his second start of the season, albeit as a right-back.

Luke Ayling (CB)

Given the number of injury concerns, Ayling could be moved into a centre-back role on Tuesday. Will go up against former teammate Chris Wood.

Conor Shaughnessy (CB)

The youngster could be set for another start in the heart of the defence, after getting the nod against Millwall in the weekend.

Cameron Borthwick-Jackson (LB)

The loanee from Manchester United hasn’t featured since their previous cup game, against Newport County. Could be in line for a return to the starting XI, at left-back.

Ronaldo Vieira

Eunan O’Kane (CM)

The Irishman has started off the season on a great note and Christiansen could stick with him in the midfield ahead of Mateusz Klich.

Ronaldo Vieira (CM)

The 19-year old hasn’t been involved much in the league games, but has started both the cup ties, in which he has scored once as well. Could be in for a call-up in place of Kalvin Phillips.

Kemar Roofe (RW)

The 24-year old has been overlooked for the last two league games, despite showing great form before that. Should come into the line-up for Ezgjan Alioski.

Samu Saiz (CAM)

The 26-year old former Huesca man is the creative outlet for the Whites and should start the game in behind the striker, at the Turf Moor.

Stuart Dallas (LW)

Has performed well each time he has been given a chance. Having started both the previous cup ties, he could be in line for his third start, with Pablo Hernandez being benched.

Pierre-Michel Lasogga (ST)

The German has started life in England on a very strong note. Should continue to lead the line in the midweek game as well.
