Predicted Everton Line-up To Face Sunderland In Carabao Cup

Everton will look to get their season back on track, when they take on second division side Sunderland in the third round of the Carabao Cup.

The Toffees have endured a torrid start to the new campaign, and find themselves in the relegation zone after five league games, while their Europa League journey too did not take off the way manager Ronald Koeman would have hoped for. He will look to get things back on the right path, with a win in the cup game over the Black Cats.

Team News

James McCarthy and Ross Barkley continue to be unavailable for selection while Seamus Coleman, Ramiro Funes Mori and Yannick Bolasie are the long-term absentees. There are no other injury concerns for Koeman, but there is likely to be a lot of chopping and changing in the line-up.

Here’s how the Toffees could take the field on Wednesday night:

Manager: Ronald Koeman

Formation: 4-2-3-1

Maarten Stekelenburg (GK)

Started the Europa League game last midweek and is likely to replace Jordan Pickford between the sticks against Sunderland.

Maarten Stekelenburg

Jonjoe Kenny (RB)

The Everton U23s captain has made just a couple of appearances for the senior side so far. Could come in at right-back for the cup tie.

Michael Keane (CB)

The former Manchester United man hasn’t looked the most assured since his summer move and needs to improve his performances.

Ashley Williams (CB)

The Welsh defender made a poor mistake in the weekend that cost them the match against Manchester United. Will be itching to bounce back with a strong display.

Cuco Martina (LB)

With Luke Garbutt not in Koeman’s plans and Leighton Baines needing some rest, we could see Cuco Martina start in the left-back slot.

Michael Keane

Tom Davies (CM)

The young midfielder should line up in the middle of the park once again, after having started the weekend game against Manchester United.

Davy Klaassen (CM)

The Dutch midfielder hasn’t been handed a start by Koeman in recent games. Should feature from the get-go on Wednesday.

Kevin Mirallas (RW)

The Belgian has become a bit-part player due to his lack of consistency. Will want to prove he can be a regular starter for the club.

Nikola Vlasic (CAM)

The summer signing from Hajduk Split is full of potential, but struggled on his debut, in the Europa League. Should get a chance to make an impression against Sunderland.

Davy Klaassen

Ademola Lookman (LW)

Another player who has been overlooked this season, much to the frustration of the fans, young Ademola Lookman could be in line for a start.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin (ST)

The youngster came on from the bench against United, but should start against Sunderland. Outcast Oumar Niasse is expected to play a role by coming on from the bench.
