Predicted Chelsea Line-up To Face Nottingham Forest In The Carabao Cup

Chelsea were frustrated by an industrious Arsenal side on Sunday as they failed to break the deadlock. They had to settle for just a point, in a game in which they were less than productive. The Blues are in a decent position in the league table despite that draw and will now turn their attention to the third round League Cup tie against Nottingham Forest on Wednesday.

The Blues have a solid squad at their disposal but will have to rotate heavily if they are to keep their star players on their toes for the next game as well. So Antonio Conte is expected to field a Second string team.

Team News

Antonio Conte will miss the services of Pedro and Danny Drinkwater, both of who are nursing injuries. Defender David Luiz is suspended and remains the only other absentee for this game.

Formation: 3-4-3

Manager: Antonio Conte

GK – Willy Caballero

The backup shot-stopper for Courtois, Caballero is yet to be used by Conte and this League Cup tie is the perfect opportunity for the Blues to test him in goal.

CB – Jake Clarke-Salter

After impressive performances lower ranks at the club, Conte has revealed that Slater is in his plans for this tie and he should start on the right-hand side of the backline for the Blues.

CB – Andreas Christensen

After a decent performance whenever called upon in the league, Christensen deserves to start this game at the heart of the backline for Conte’s side.

CB – Gary Cahill

Acting as the experienced player in the backline, Cahill should start on the left-hand side of the back-3, completing a well-balanced defensive line for Chelsea.

RWB – Davide Zappacosta

With Moses deserving some rest, Zappacosta, who has already announced himself in England, is expected to start at right wing-back.

CM – Cesc Fabregas

The Spaniard has not been preferred in the first team in the league but he started against Arsenal and could act as the creator in-chief from a deeper role in this League Cup tie.

CM – Tiemoue Bakayoko

Lack of options in the middle of the park should see Conte stick with Bakayoko to partner Fabregas, giving Kante some deserved rest.

LWB – Kenedy

The versatile English star has already impressed Conte in this role and this is a chance for him to establish himself seriously in the plans of the manager.

RW – Charlie Musonda

The youngster was exceptional in the little game time he got last season under Conte and this could be his first real chance to impress the Italian gaffer this season, and is expected to have a productive game.

LW – Eden Hazard

The manager has revealed that Hazard will be getting his first start of the season after coming back from an injury. The lack of pressure and intensity will give him time to adjust himself, and get 90 minutes under his belt.

ST – Michy Batshuayi

With Morata the only option, Chelsea should use Batshuayi, who has also been decent, to lead the side’s attack in this tie.
