Opinion: A star-studded combined XI featuring players above 32 years of age

With the emergence of young guns season after season, people often tend to forget the importance of the older players who have done it all in their illustrious careers. Here’s an XI of players over the age of 32 who could still win you games today.

Gianluigi Buffon

The 38-year-old is an absolute legend of the game and has played professional football for a staggering 24 years. Buffon’s career honours include 11 Serie A titles, 9 domestic cups, and 1 FIFA World Cup. Buffon currently plays for French Champions Paris Saint-Germain. 

Dani Alves

The 35-year-old is still going strong for PSG and is one of the best right-backs in the world. Alves has won multiple league titles in 3 different countries including 6 with Barcelona.  Alves has also won 3 Champions League titles and a combined 23 trophies at club level.

Giorgio Chiellini

The 35-year-old captains both Juventus and the Italian national team and has been one of the best centre-backs in the world over the years. The Italian has won 16 trophies with Juventus and also a Bronze medal with Italy at the Olympics.

Uruguay and Atletico Madrid’s skipper is arguably the best defender in world football today. The 33-year-old’s reading and positioning makes him an almost unbeatable force and has proven that time and again for his club and country.
