How Manchester City will line-up with their new signings?

Manchester City started their campaign away from home against West Ham United and got off to a flying start.

With the transfer window done and dusted, let’s have a look at how they would line-up hereafter with some of their new signings.

Ederson – Goalkeeper

The Brazilian international has been one of Guardiola’s most important players and completely changed the way City played. City struggled to initiate attacks prior to his arrival and he’s been a starter ever since his arrival.

Joao Cancelo – Right-back

The Portuguese international is one of the best attacking full-backs in the game and will be given the license to bomb forward. He profiles differently than Kyle Walker, whose main purpose has been to help the shut counter-attacks.

John Stones – Centre-back

The England international always makes a good start to the campaign but often fails to sustain that form for long periods. He’ll have to sustain it for a whole season if City are to be successful in all competitions.

Aymeric Laporte – Centre-back

Considered the best defender in the Premier League last season, just behind Liverpool’s Virgil Van Dijk, Laporte will have to not only keep that consistency but be a leader for that backline after Vincent Kompany’s departure in the summer.

Oleksandr Zinchenko – Left-back

The Ukranian is likely to start more games after signing a new contract and Benjamin Mendy’s lack of fitness suggests that he’ll be first-choice going into the new season.

Rodri – Holding midfielder

Another new signing, the Spaniard is hailed as the second coming of Sergio Busquets and it’s clear in the way he plays. He likes to dictate the tempo of the game and would be a great long-term heir to Fernandinho in midfield.

Kevin De Bruyne – Central attacking midfielder

Kevin De Bruyne

The Belgian was out with injury for most of last season but will be rearing to go this season and is probably still the best midfielder in the league when he gets a consistent run of games.

David Silva – Central attacking midfielder

Heading into the final year of his contract, there’s the possibility that he will leave the club as their greatest player. He’s the one who knits everything together and will take up some of the responsibility of leading the side in Vincent Kompany’s absence.

Raheem Sterling – Left-wing

Sterling has been one of the most improved players in the league over the last couple of seasons and there’s a case to be made that he’s been the best attacking player in the league along with Mohammed Salah in the last two seasons.

Bernardo Silva – Right-wing

The Portuguese international was fantastic last season after a slow start to his previous season at the Etihad. He was an ever-present for Pep Guardiola, whether that was in midfield or on the wings.

Sergio Aguero – Centre-forward

City’s record goalscorer and the man for the big moment, Sergio Aguero will be key in all competitions once again. He’s not as young anymore but that won’t hinder him from finding the back of the net.
