RB Salzburg vs Liverpool: Liverpool line-up

Liverpool travel to the Red Bull Arena to take on RB Salzburg in their final group stage game. For the second year in a row, Liverpool’s fate of qualifying to the next stage has come down to the last game of the group stage.

Nothing but a point against Jesse Marsch’s men would guarantee them qualification to the knockout stages.

The Reds have been unbeatable in the Premier League so far but that has not been the case in the Champions League and Jurgen Klopp would be hoping to continue as they did it last year in Europe.

On the other hand, if Salzburg manage to win, Liverpool’s hopes would be in danger and their qualification would depend on the other fixture in Group E.

Salzburg’s games have guaranteed goals so far and this is a crucial fixture for both sides.

Joel Matip is expected to be on the sidelines and Nathaniel Clyne is recovering from his injury. Fabinho’s ankle ligament damage has put the Brazilian out of action for some time.

Recent cramp issues to Dejan Lovern, Adam Lallana, and Georginio Wijnaldum have made them doubtful for this important fixture.

The Brazilian returned to the line-up at the weekend after serving his suspension. His clean sheet against Bournemouth was only his third in the league this season and he would be hoping to do the same against Salzburg.

Trent Alexander-Arnold (RB)

He is expected to return after being left out on the bench against the Cherries. The Englishman has been impressive with his forward runs and would be hoping to help the team’s attack.

Joe Gomez (CB)

With Lovern doubtful for this fixture, Gomez is expected to partner Virgil Van Dijk at the heart of defence rather than start at right-back, as he did against Bournemouth.

Virgil Van Dijk (CB)

Van Dijk would be taking charge at the back. He has been a key member in Klopp’s squad, thus making him an undoubted starter.

Andy Robertson (LB)

The Scotsman has been exceptional for the Reds and seems to be getting better with each game. He has cemented his spot firmly in the squad and is expected to start this match too.

Jordan Henderson (RCM)

Henderson will be leading the team against Salzburg. He would be hoping to help the team cross the line with ease.

Naby Keita (CM)

A rare start at the weekend saw Keita notch up a goal and he looks to have grabbed his opportunity well. With several injuries in the midfield department, he is expected to retain his spot.

James Milner (LCM)

Though the Englishman has not seen much game time, he is expected to start. Injury to Fabinho has paved the way for his inclusion in the starting XI.

The Egyptian was once again on the scoresheet at the weekend and looks to have overcome his injury issues of late. He would be hoping to add more to his name.
