Premier League opinion: Out-of-contract Premier League XI

It’s that stage of the season now, where contracts start to itch towards the end of their expiration date and a few players learn just how valuable their services are. While that is happening all around the world, the Premier League has seen a few top-level players bid adieu.

Aaron Ramsey won’t make the list because he’s joined Juventus and similarly with Olivier Giroud, as the Frenchman has a one-year extension with Chelsea. Barring that, everyone is up for grabs and it makes for a rather interesting starting eleven.

Out of Contract XI

Formation: 3-4-1-2

Adrian (GK)

West Ham’sAdrian barely makes the final cut but he comes out on top after his fair share of incredible performances. However, it was a tough fight to the top with Michel Vorm, Artur Boruc and even Willy Caballero putting up a rather impressive fight.

David Luiz (CB)

The Brazilian may have found a new lease of life at Chelsea but that cannot take away from the fact that his deal with the club does expire at the end of the season. Formerly a world record holder, the Brazilian has a slew of trophies in his cabinet, including a Champions League crown.

Vincent Kompany (CB)

Another Premier League superstar, the Manchester City club captain emphasises the word leadership and the three titles he has makes him a legend for the club. Injuries may have stopped him from becoming one of the best in the world, but nevertheless, he finds a place on this list.

Gary Cahill (CB)

He arrived at Chelsea in 2012 after making his name at Bolton and has since gone on to amass more than 250 appearances for the club. In that time, Cahill has won two Premier League titles, a Champions League crown and a myriad of other trophies.

Antonio Valencia (RWB)

His time at Manchester United may be coming to an end, but the wing-back has been a mainstay since his arrival. Now 33 years old, Valencia has spent nearly 10 years winning a catalogue of trophies. That sees him make the cut above Danny Simpson and Stephan Lichtsteiner.

Ander Herrera (CM)

PSG and Manchester United want him, but the Spaniard’s eyes have moved away from the Old Trafford in recent weeks. However, when he has played, the 29-year-old has been his ever-present brilliant self and one of the club’s best players.

James Milner (CM)

A Premier League debut at the age of 16, spells at Newcastle United, Aston Villa, Leeds United before his move to Manchester City. It was there, that Milner truly established himself as a team-player, finishing his time with five trophies, including two Premier League titles.

He left for Liverpool as a free transfer and has made just as big an impact with the Reds, playing all over the field for the club.

Nacho Monreal (LWB)

An Arsenal stalwart, the 33-year-old is amongst the Premier League’s most underrated defenders after arriving at the club from Malaga. He’s since made well over 200 appearances for the club, winning a few honours along the way and making an immense impact.

Juan Mata (CAM)

An uncontested starter in this team, the Spaniard is the third Manchester United player to make the list. A big part of any Red Devil side for the last five years, Mata arrived after spending three odd years with Chelsea.

He’s somehow managed to make just over 240 appearances in England’s top-tier, with a large majority of that coming for the Red side of Manchester.

Danny Welbeck (RF)

If it wasn’t for injuries, Danny Welbeck had the potential to do a lot of good for Arsenal after his move from Manchester United. The Englishman arrived with a lot of promise and a desire to work hard for any side. Now with his departure confirmed, a lot of clubs would benefit from his ability and talent.

Daniel Sturridge (LF)

Once considered to be one of the Premier League’s most lethal forwards, injuries changed the course of the 29-year-old’s career.

However, if he does move, Sturridge leaves with 2 FA Cups, a Premier League title and a Champions League crown to his name. Add that to his 218 Premier League appearances and 107 goal contributions, it makes for tidy reading.

Siddhant Lazar

Tom Landry once said "Football is an incredible game. Sometimes it's so incredible, it's unbelievable." Football is and always will be the beautiful game. What every child understands, yet every adult struggles to, is that it is a game that defines the nature of the universe. But that's just me.
