Leeds United scored twice in injury time to come from behind and beat Blackburn Rovers 3-2 at Elland Road to remain on top of the Championship on Boxing Day. Williams scored an own goal in favour of the home team but the away side struck back with a brace from Charlie Mulgrew.
However, Kemar Roofe scored a brace in the space of the last three minutes of the game to seal the win for Marcelo Bielsa’s men.
The Peacocks took the lead in the 33rd minute in a slightly fortuitous way. A Jack Harrison cross from the left wing was sliced into his own net by Derrick Williams. Blackburn equalised two minutes into the second half when Mulgrew was fouled by Luke Ayling inside the box. The former then took the penalty and scored.
In the 90th minute, Mulgrew scored a long-range free-kick of high quality to almost win the game for Rovers. But Leeds had other ideas in their mind. They did what they did against Aston Villa a few days earlier, come from behind and win by scoring in injury time.
Kemar Roofe fired in from close range after a scramble to equalise in the 91st minute. The Whites striker headed home the winner following a cross from the right wing.
This result puts Blackburn at 14th place in the table with 31 points, eight behind sixth-placed Derby County and promotion playoff places. Meanwhile, Leeds stay on top of the pile, three points clear of second-placed Norwich City.
