Tottenham Hotspur news: Spurs should sign Kalvin Phillips
According to a report in football.london, Spurs are looking at another Leeds United star from last season to shore up their midfield in Kalvin Phillips, after having two windows of no transfer activity.
Spurs fans have a lot to look forward to with the new stadium and the purchase of Lyon’s highly reputed central midfielder, Tanguy Ndombele.
As stated above, the first signing from Leeds was Jack Clarke, the young English winger. However, he will be continuing his development at Leeds next season, which seems like the right thing to do with Marcelo Bielsa in charge for another season at Elland Road.
Now, speaking of Phillips, the Englishman was considered one of the best midfielders in the Championship last season.
Phillips played as the anchorman in the midfield, initiating plays and sweeping up any danger. He’s not the most adventurous in his passing but looks to play short passes and occasionally switch play with diagonal passes.
Mauricio Pochettino has always had a player with similar attributes, using Eric Dier and Victor Wanyama for the same.
Wanyama has struggled with injuries since his fantastic first season with Spurs and Eric Dier is more of utility player, who can do a job in that holding role while also being capable of playing as a centre-back.
However, both have become unreliable in recent seasons and Pochettino will be looking to add someone with more steel in Philips. Harry Winks is probably the best player to play in that role but he can’t play in a single pivot as he can bullied in certain situations by the more physical players in the league.
Philips would make a fantastic partner for Spurs’ new signing, Tanguy Nnombele, as they’d both have the physicality without lacking in the technique to face off against the likes of Liverpool and Manchester City.
Spurs have been pushing towards a title for a few seasons now but have just not managed to make that final leap.

After coming so close to winning the biggest one of them all, Pochettino and his boys will want to make certain that this could finally be their year. They only have to look at the team they lost to in the Champions League final to find some inspiration.
Liverpool suffered heartbreak a year before but went on and reinforced weaknesses in their squad and became European Champions. Spurs should go all out this summer and Phillips would be a
