Tottenham Hotspur FC Opinion: Why Tottenham Hotspur should sign Carlos Soler from Valencia?
According to
ESPN, Mauricio Pochettino’s
Tottenham are plotting a
£30 million summer move for Valencia midfielder Carlos Soler. ESPN also reports that French Champions Paris Saint-Germain are also keen on the Spaniard but Spurs lead the race as they can offer regular game time to Soler.
Tottenham failed to bring in a single player in January and have left a void
in midfield after the departure of Belgian powerhouse Mousa Dembele.
Pochettino’s side needs midfield reinforcements in the summer and Carlos Soler would be a brilliant addition to the Spurs squad.
Soler has been criticised by the Spanish media for his performances this season but the 22- year old hasn’t been that bad. Soler has improved statistically when compared to last season and averages more shots,
more passes and more key passes per 90 minutes.
Carlos Soler is a quick and direct midfielder who will often be found roaming in the midfield to make himself available for a pass from his teammates.
Soler has the ability to pick the ball up from deep and run at the opposition using his pace to get behind the defenders and his strength to retain possession under challenges. Soler’s distribution
is also good and he is capable of making long and short passes with either foot.
Despite being just 6 feet tall and having a relatively slender build, Soler is incredibly strong and takes his time while holding up the ball in order to dictate the pace of his team’s attacks.
His positional awareness and technical ability on the ball allows him to change the tempo of the game at any moment either with a killer pass or with the composure to retain the ball to calm things down.
Although his preferred role is as an attacking midfielder, Soler is capable
of playing anywhere across the midfield and also on the right wing. The
Spaniard will open up a lot of possibilities for Mauricio Pochettino and Soler can be viewed as a long-term replacement to Christian Eriksen.
Soler can also be played with Eriksen either centrally or out wide and can switch positions in the game to good effect.

Conclusion
Signing Carlos Soler will be a smart move by Spurs as he has the best
part of a decade left in him. Soler will improve massively under Pochettino
just like Dele Alli has since his move from MK Dons.
Soler could add goals to his name under the Tottenham boss, something that he has struggled to do at Valencia. Spurs should be quick in the summer to beat PSG to sign Soler and any delay will potentially bring in other clubs in the race to sign the Spaniard.
