Hull City opinion: Should the Tigers sign George Edmundson?

Hull City, for all of Jarrod Bowen’s heroics, failed to make it to the promotion play-offs, finishing 13th in the Championship. Bowen, on the other hand, finished the season with 21 goals to his name, outdoing second-placed Fraizer Campbell, who finished with 12 goals.

It shows the massive difference in quality at the club and why they need to change that. Bowen clearly has a very bright future and that is something the club have to build around.

They have a decent core at their disposal and it’s something that manager Nigel Adkins needs especially if is to succeed at the club. With time, the Tigers can eventually make it to the promotion play-offs.

But to do that, the club have to shore up their back-line and the only way they can do that is by adding new stars in the summer window.

Their defence has struggled this season and while the club has netted 66 goals, they’ve also conceded 68 goals. This includes 3 goals to Reading, Blackburn Rovers and 5 against Brentford.

Everything shows that the Tigers need defensive reinforcements and they need it now before things get even worse. It’s their centre-backs that have caused them the most problems, with Liam Ridgewell and even Ondrej Mazuch struggling to make an impact.

That has seen Reece Burke take centre-stage and the young 22-year-old has done well. While he has done well, Hull City need to add a new pair of eyes and the Hull Daily Mail has reported that they are one of the many clubs interested in George Edmundson.

The 21-year-old has done exceptionally well, playing 54 out of a possible 55 games this season. Add that to the 16 clean sheets he’s played a big part in and Edmundson becomes just the man Hull City need.

The youngster has impressed in the lower levels and while there is a risk in taking him above his station so quickly, the 21-year-old has shown an ability to adapt. George Edmundson initially struggled when he first arrived at the club.

But he has since thrown any concerns about him with a series of consistent performances. Combine that with his 6’3” frame, agility and strength on the ball, it makes him a gem in the rough and one that needs just the right polish to flourish.

As Reece Burke, Robbie McKenzie and Jarrod Bowen have proven this season, Nigel Adkins is the right man to help George Edmundson move his career forward.

Conclusion

George Edmundson is a young gem waiting to move up the ladder and while the move might come just a little early, it’s one that young Edmundson has shown he can adapt to.

For Hull City, however, he can be just the man to improve their back-line not just in the present, but also in the future.
