Hull City parting ways with their 27-year-old outcast would be a win-win for all parties

Why Hull should cash in Markus Henriksen amidst interest from Turkey

According to a report from Hull Live, Turkish club Trabzonspor are interested in signing Hull City outcast Markus Henriksen during the January transfer window.

Markus Henriksen, 27, has been frozen out by manager Grant McCann, leaving the midfielder’s future in limbo. As a result, the 27-year-old, who skippered the Tigers last season under Nigel Adkins, has not featured at all this term.

His competitive appearances have only come for his country and with the January transfer window approaching, he will desperately hope for a solution to be found sooner than later.

The report adds that Hull had offered Henriksen a contract extension offer in September but he refused it, meaning the Norwegian is now in line to become a free agent at the end of this season. With the Trondheim-born star attracting interest from Turkey, Hull must cash in on their midfielder in January.

With manager Grant McCann completely overlooking Henriksen in the first 16 games this season, it doesn’t look like things are going to take any dramatic turnaround in the positive direction.

Henriksen has made 92 appearances for Hull in all competitions since his move to the KCOM Stadium from AZ Alkmaar back in the 2016-17 season when the Tigers were in the Premier League.

After being the Tigers’ skipper under Nigel Adkins last season, the Norway international’s no involvement in the first-team so far this season suggest his time at the club is coming to an end.

To put things into perspective, Hull must offload Henriksen in the New Year as it would be a shame if they end up losing a quality player on a free transfer at the end of the season.

It is clear McCann doesn’t want the midfielder in his squad and Henriksen isn’t going to get any game time this season, particularly after rejecting a contract extension offer in September. Looking at current central midfield options Jackson Irvine, David Batty and George Honeymoon performing well, the departure of Henriksen will not hurt Hull.

The report adds that Hull are willing to sell for £1m and looking at things from their perspective, it is a great chance to offload the Norwegian from their books.

At 27, Henriksen is at a stage in his career where he would ideally want to start each and every game, and a move to Trabzonspor might give him the opportunity to hit greater heights in the future. This is a deal that suits all parties perfectly well and with that in mind, Hull should not hesitate to cash him in during the winter transfer window.
