Huddersfield Town’s woes would end if they appoint this two-time promotion-winning manager

Why Huddersfield Town should appoint Chris Hughton

Huddersfield Town have sacked manager Jan Siewert after the 2-1 loss to Fulham last Friday night. The German had won only one game since he took charge of the club in January, following the departure of fellow German manager David Wagner.

Taking over from Wagner was always going to be an extremely difficult task as Wagner had a great influence on all of the decisions made by the club. It was quite a miraculous effort to get the Terriers promoted to the Premier League with a negative goal difference.

It was an even finer achievement to make certain that Huddersfield survived in the Premier League in the following season. Wagner’s achievements are unlikely to be topped and Siewert had a difficult job at hand from the very start.

Siewert shared many of the philosophies of Wagner, but he simply could not turn the results. He got his first big win in February against Wolverhampton Wanderers but that was the only ray of light in his 7 months in charge of the club.

This leaves them with a need for a replacement and the Examiner Live has reported that former Brighton boss Chris Hughton is the favourite to replace him. Hughton has a fantastic CV, having gotten Brighton promoted 2 seasons back and keeping them in the Premier League during his two seasons in charge.

Hughton also has a lot of experience in English football, having managed Newcastle United, Birmingham City, Norwich City along with Brighton. Hughton is stylistically quite different as his teams are known for their fantastic organization.

Hughton’s teams are very difficult to break down and have had a fantastic record at home over the years. Perhaps, this is what the Terriers currently need as the principles of Wagner and Siewert have faded away over the course of the last year and a half.

Huddersfield Town fans can look at a serious push for promotion if Hughton is in charge as he’ll bring a real solidity to their side, which is lacking at the moment and he can build from there.

This might come at the cost of a less stylistic and attacking brand of football but Hughton isn’t going to just hoof it long to the central striker either. There is a balance to the way his sides play and Huddersfield Town fans have a right to get excited by the possibilities of such an appointment.
