Huddersfield signing this experienced Sheff Wednesday star would help them deal with the Championship next season

Huddersfield Town opinion: The Terriers should go for Keiren Westwood

The Examiner Live has reported that Huddersfield Town are interested in a move for Sheffield Wednesday star Keiren Westwood. While he is contracted to the Owls, the 34-year-old won’t be for too long, as his current deal with the club is expiring at the end of the season.

Moreover, Westwood has been out of favour at the club under former manager Jos Luhukay. However, that has changed with the arrival of Steve Bruce and since then, Keiren Westwood has played in all but one game.

The 34-year-old has been an immense presence between the sticks. The club has managed to lose just three games since then, keeping 11 clean sheets since the last week of December.

It shows exactly why Huddersfield Town need him next season, with the club set to play Championship football next season.

They weren’t even expected to survive their first season in the top tier but by mere miracle, they did. Things changed this term and with a serious inability to consistently score goals, the Terriers were not able to keep up with the pace and the sheer ferocity of the Premier League.

That has played a big part in their downfall, with the club scoring just 19 goals so far. They’ve had their fair share of defensive issues, conceding 67 goals as of gameweek 34, which has further affected them.

To make things worse, main goalkeeper Jonas Lossl has been dropped in recent weeks, with Ben Hamer taking over. The Examiner Live has further added that the German is on his way out, leaving the club with just Hamer and Joel Coleman.

Neither goalkeeper has managed to impress, with Hamer getting a lot of stick for his recent performances. They need someone reliable next season, especially if they are to survive their first season back in the Championship.

Given just how much the competition has increased over the last few seasons, the Terriers need a fighting chance. Neither Hamer nor Coleman will help them with that but Keiren Westwood’s 300-odd games in the Championship will.

Conclusion

With their time in the Premier League all but coming to an end, Huddersfield Town need reinforcements to survive next season in the Championship.

As mentioned, they do not have reliable options between the sticks and that has proven to be problematic. Adding someone as experienced as Keiren Westwood will certainly help that.
