How Chelsea Can Fit In This 27-year Old Attacking Midfielder, Who Happens To Be An Arsenal Target

Chelsea Fan Chants

The season is finished, and now it’s the time for Chelsea football club to analyze the mistakes and overcome them. The London club faced a major setback this season as they saw the sacking of ‘The Special One’ Jose Mourinho, and the poor performances of the entire squad.

The club was supposed to defend the title this season, but it turned out that they were the worst side in doing the job. Guus Hiddink did his job very well, he remained calm the entire season and deserves a lot more credit for keeping the side in the top half of the table.

Chelsea has announced that Antonio Conte will be managing the Blues after the Euros and that has surely cheered the side as well as their fans. With new manager comes new rumors and as soon as he was confirmed as the manager, many Italian and Serie A stars were linked with the club.

Chelsea FC, right at this very moment, needs a transition. The side will not be featuring in the Champions League next year, which means they will have a tough time in the transfer market to lure ambitious players to the club. The side surely needs some big names if they intend to compete for the Premier League title next year, and hence, Conte will have to be very clever before signing any deal with a player.

Henrikh-Mkhitaryan-26

The very recent news that has come up is about Henrikh Mkhitaryan. After his outstanding performance with Borussia Dortmund, the Armenian has caught the eyes of many European giants and that includes Arsenal and Chelsea too. Henrikh has a great scope in Germany, but Chelsea is capable of offering him a contract that he simply cannot refuse.

Talking about the Armenian, he has scored 10 goals this season for the German side, and has 15 assists to his name. He is one of those few players who have reached the double figures in both assists and goals in Europe this season. Dortmund can easily offer him the Champions League football for the coming year, and that’s why, Chelsea will have to break the bank to get the signature of the Armenian.

Mkhitaryan is a very versatile player which allows him to play a variety of roles on the field. He is capable of playing as an attacking midfielder as well as a second striker. Besides these attacking positions, he is also capable of playing on the flanks. Chelsea has been very poor in front of the goal, but the side showed their quality in their last few games.

Hazard was nowhere near his previous standards, but the Belgian came back with a storm and destroyed Tottenham’s title hopes. Willian was the only performer who gave his best throughout the season, and hence, the wings will be occupied by the duo the next season as well.

Chelsea signed Pedro at the start of the 2015-16 season, but the Spanish international was unable to do what was expected from him. If the club manages to sign Mkhitaryan, they will have to give him a regular first team play in order to keep him for a long term. Mkhitaryan can play as a central midfielder, but after a very successful spell as an attacking playmaker, he will hinder in the center of the park.

That leaves the only possible position, i.e. as an Attacking Midfielder. Pedro was signed by Jose Mourinho, and he did have a long term plan with the Spaniard, but analyzing the entire season, Mkhitaryan was far-far better than him, and if the transfer happens, Pedro will have to sacrifice his position because that is the best possible position from where Mkhitaryan can offer a good surplus.
