“How about refunding the fans out of the players over blown wages?”: Some Aston Villa fans unhappy after dismal 3-0 loss to Wigan Athletic + Match Report

Wigan Athletic 3 – 0 Aston Villa: Fans’ reactions + Match Report

A struggling Wigan Athletic absolutely smashed Aston Villa 3-0 at the DW Stadium to win their first game since November and put a significant dent in the play-off hopes of the Birmingham-based club.

Gary Roberts, Michael Jacobs and Joe Garner scored the goal for the Latics, who ended their eight-game winless run and propel up to 20th in the table, six points clear of the relegation zone.

The home side took the lead in the 41st minute when Anthony Pilkington, who was making his debut, set up Roberts with a brilliant chance. The latter thumped home to give a precious lead to Paul Cook’s men.

This came after Tammy Abraham missed a great chance to put Villa ahead after a poor distribution from Wigan goalkeeper allowed Yannick Bolasie to set up the striker.

A fine Jacobs header put the home side in commanding position. Then substitute Glen Whelan bundled Josh Windass down in the box. The subsequent spot-kick was converted lethally by Garner to seal the points and mark a great day in the office.

In a bad day for Dean Smith’s men, they couldn’t even manage a shot on target in the game. Only four attempts at goal against a team who had conceded 40 goals in the league so far this season. Such was negativity surrounding this performance that their own fans started singing about how bad they were.

This defeat places Villa 12th on the table, five points behind the play-off spots which is looking a distant dream at the moment.

Here’s how the fans reacted after this horrible defeat, safe to say, few weren’t shy on voicing their opinions on the ground itself:
