Horrible Manchester United – The Best And The Worst Rated Red Devils From The Tottenham Game

Manchester United had a horrible outing as their hopes of making it to the Champions League were severely dealt a blow by a brilliant Tottenham side. Manchester United might have had a great record against Tottenham in the Premier League but this is not the Manchester United of the old.

Tottenham though needed the 70th minute before they could break the deadlock and that too because of a Manchester United injury. Tim Fosu-Mensah had been the best United player but as soon as he was replaced, after an injury, Tottenham took full advantage as Dele Alli scored.

Toby Alderweireld and Erik Lamela scored in another four minutes and the tie was out of United’s hand already. We look back at the game and rate the performance of United players.

David de Gea – 6/10

The Spanish goalkeeper actually did pretty well to keep the score down. He had a few great saves and ensured Manchester United did not concede five or six.

Timothy Fosu-Mensah – 8/10

The young defender was excellent for Manchester United and as soon as he was substituted, everything went wrong for the side.

Chris Smalling – 6/10

Chris Smalling did extremely well to keep Harry Kane in check but could not really do much to keep his side from conceding the three goals.

Daley Blind – 5/10

Blind is not a centre-back even though he has performed brilliant for the side. He was partly to blame for Alli’s goal but couldn’t really do anything else in the defence.

Marcos Rojo – 4/10

A poor game by his standards, the Argentine did not look up to speed and didn’t really offer much in attack for the side as well.

Morgan Schneiderlin – 5/10

The French midfielder was alright in the centre of the field. He needs another partner who can share the workload, not his best performance for Manchester United this season.

Michael Carrick – 6/10

The midfielder might not be the same player he was when United signed him from Tottenham and it is showing. Carrick was uncharacteristically poor and well, his time at the club might be coming to an end soon.

Juan Mata – 4/10

A horrible outing for the Spanish star and he was wasted by Van Gaal by playing him out of position.

Jesse Lingard – 4/10

We don’t know why Lingard was preferred as the playmaker for Manchester United, it made no sense since Mata thrives in this role for the club.

Anthony Martial – 6/10

The French attacker was one of the bright sparks for Manchester United but could not do enough to find them a goal in the game.

Marcus Rashford – 5/10

An average showing for the Manchester United youngster, he didn’t really do much to trouble the Spurs defence and he was yanked off after the first half.

Substitutes:

Ashley Young – 4/10

Why was Young even played as a striker? He did his bit but he never is someone who could deal with Wimmer and Alderweireld.

Memphis Depay – 5/10

An OK display by the Dutchman but he has to do more.

Matteo Darmian – 2/10

It might not always have been his fault but he was extremely poor and was horrible in defence for the side.
