Watford opinion: Hornets in for Craig Dawson – Good move?

According to a report in Sun, Watford have joined Premier League rivals Burnley in the race to sign West Brom centre-back Craig Dawson this summer.

The FA Cup runners-up, who had a great season under Javi Gracia, want a British-based defender this summer, and Dawson fits the bill in every way, shape and form. (h/t Sun)

Burnley boss Sean Dyche is also keen to get the 29-year-old, who changed his agent in a bid to make a move back to the Premier League, over at Turf Moor. (h/t Sun)

However, with the Hornets buzzing around for this deal, the race could go down to the wire. Here’s why Gracia’s men should beat the Clarets to the signature of the West Brom man:

Dawson could settle in well at Watford

With Miguel Britos departing and Sebastian Prodl on the periphery, Watford are down to three central defenders in their squad – Adrian Mariappa, Craig Cathcart and Christian Kabasele.

However, they could do good by signing another player in that position to strengthen that department ahead of next season. This is partly because, at times, Gracia likes to play with a three-at-the-back as well.

For that reason, they are right in looking to pursue a deal to sign Craig Dawson from West Brom. The 29-year-old is a centre-back by trade, who can play on both sides and is capable of operating at right-back too if required.

His experience, know-how and defensive stability would help the Hornets in a big way. Furthermore, the Englishman is very lethal when it comes to attacking balls in set-piece situations in the opposition box, which is Watford’s strength as well.

Conclusion

All in all, we can conclude by saying that Javi Gracia’s men would really benefit from having Dawson in their squad. Thus, they should beat Burnley to sign the 29-year-old.
