Hooper And Fletcher To Start – Strongest 4-4-2 Sheffield Wednesday Line-Up To Face Ipswich Town

Sheffield Wednesday

Predicted Sheffield Wednesday Lineup To Face Ipswich

The race for the Championship play-off places is reaching a real crescendo now. Sheffield Wednesday will feel that as they are 5 points above Leeds and are handily placed. But they face a tough away task here at Portman Road.

Ipswich managed to beat Newcastle 3-1 here over Easter and are fully capable of doing the same on their day. The tractor boys may well be happy to play on the break so that is something Wednesday will need to be on their guard for as they look to attack the game and seal their place in the top 6.

Probable Sheffield Wednesday XI:

Formation: 4-4-2

GK – Kieren Westwood

The Republic of Ireland international has played at a good level and will once again add his calm and experience to Wednesday’s defensive cause.

RB – Jack Hunt

The 26-year-old from Leeds has had another good season and has been sought after by clubs at a higher level.  Another good performance from him is needed here.

CB – Tom Lees

Another player who has been courted by top level teams, Lees deserves a place in the Premier League and remains important to the Owls’ playoff bid.

CB – Glenn Loovens

The Dutch defender has top-flight experience in Spain and has plenty of Championship appearances to his name. He should start this important fixture.

LB – Daniel Pudil

Another player with plenty of experience, the Czech Republic left-back has 2 league goals to his name this term. He will probably look to add one more.

RM – Ross Wallace

Yet another member of the squad who is over 30, Wallace is playing in a very modern way, cutting in from the right onto his favoured left foot. He has 5 league goals this season and will play a part here again.

CM – Kieran Lee

Another regular fixture in a solid looking Sheffield Wednesday side, his central midfield partnership with Bannan will be important.

CM – Barry Bannan

The former Villa man knows what Premier League football is all about and would love to get back there. A well balanced central midfield area is completed by the Scot.

LM – Adam Reach

The former Middlesbrough man will look to supply the ammunition to Wednesday’s front two here. Should start on the left wing.

ST – Steven Fletcher

The former Sunderland and Marseille striker brings bags of attacking nous to this side and is very much capable of adding to his 10 league goals this season should their final ball be on the money.

ST – Gary Hooper

Still just 29, the former Celtic and Norwich man has gone off the boil but retains plenty of ability and will finish whatever chances come his way. To get the best out of this front two, the Owls may need to take the game firmly to Ipswich this time.
