“He’s Better Than Cannavarooooo!” – Twitter Reacts To Bournemouth’s 1-0 Win vs Newcastle + Player Ratings

Full Time: Newcastle United 0-1 Bournemouth

Bournemouth defender Steve Cook headed an injury-time winner to lift the Cherries out of the Premier League relegation zone and condemn Rafa Benitez’s Newcastle United to defeat at their own stadium. The Magpies wasted a string of chances in what was a very scrappy match.

Asmir Begovic produced fine saves to deny Ritchie and Christian Atsu, and Dwight Gayle spurned another opportunity. The Cherries fought hard and valiantly till the end, and ultimately their efforts bore fruit as they managed to secure much-needed 3 points against Newcastle United.

Bournemouth Player Ratings

Asmir Begovic – 8.5/10

Begovic was the one of the main reasons as to why Newcastle failed to score. He made several fine saves throughout the match to restrict the home side.

Simon Francis – 8.5/10

The player did his duty well even though he made an arguably necessary foul on Atsu towards the end of the game. Nevertheless, Francis was quite solid at the back for Bournemouth and was a beast when it came to aerial challenges.

Steve Cook – 9/10

Not only did Cook play well defensively, he also scored the only goal of the match to gift three points to Bournemouth. This was his first goal since December 2016.

Nathan Ake – 8/10

Bournemouth were quite solid at the back and Ake had an important role to play. He made some crucial passes to maintain possession and restricted almost every attack from Newcastle.

Charlie Daniels – 8.5/10

The player kept Jonjo Shelvey in his pocket for most of the match and put up a very solid display at the back. Definitely a classy performance from Daniels.

Jordon Ibe – 7/10

Ibe did his duty diligently but did nothing extraordinary. However, he was his usual self and kept things going for the Cherries.

Andrew Surman – 7.5/10

His corner provided the opportunity for Cook to score, and he rounded up a decent performance with that, even though he did pick up a yellow card.

Harry Arter – 6.5/10

Arter could not really make anything happen in terms of chances but he did put in effort. He was a bit sloppy in the first-half but did a little better in the second.

Marc Pugh – 8/10

He constantly made incisive runs up front to amp up the pressure on Newcastle but the Magpies were quite tough to break. Pugh almost had a chance to score but he missed.

Callum Wilson – 7/10

The player deserves lesser flak since it was his first league start since January. He missed two good chances but was otherwise decent enough.

Joshua King – 8/10

King was aggressive and created ample chances for his teammates by playing well-timed crosses and passes but failed to get his own name up on the score sheet.

Subs

Adam Smith – 6/10

He came on quite late but he did improve the fluidity of the game. However, he did not really make too much impact.

Jermain Defoe – 7/10

Defoe added a fresh sense of energy into the team and that did speed up the pace of the game a bit in the middle.

While Newcastle fans raged on Twitter, Bournemouth fans were quite happy – albeit relieved – with the crucial win.
