Premier League Team Of The Week – Matchday 6

The Premier League is already six match-weeks old and the points table is already starting to take shape. Clubs at the top of the points table have started to cement their places while a few clubs are already fighting for their lives, early this season.

Matchday 6 saw a number of exciting games and the likes of Manchester City, Manchester United, Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool, Tottenham Hotspur and Everton all managed to pick up victories. Crystal Palace remain goalless and are falling into a limbo but who were the stars of the weekend?

Here is the Team of the Week for Match Day 6 of the EPL:

Formation: 3-4-1-2

GK – Matt Ryan (Brighton & Hove Albion)

Helping Brighton to a victory over Newcastle United, Ryan kept a clean sheet, making 5 tremendous saves to find a place in this side.

RWB – Stephan Ward (Burnley)

In a dull 0-0 draw against Huddersfield, Ward was one of the most exciting players for Burnley at both ends of the field as he created a couple of chances and kept the Terriers out of harm’s way.

CB – Cesar Azpilicueta (Chelsea)

Picked up a couple of assists, helping Morata to a brace and also helped Chelsea keep a clean sheet against Stoke at the weekend.

CB – Phil Jones (Manchester United)

A solid performance from the United man, who notably made 11 clearances in the game as the Red Devils held on to a slim advantage against Southampton.

CB – Adrian Mariappa (Watford)

Made a couple of important blocks late in the game and kept Swansea at check for most of the game to help the Hornets to all three points.

LWB – Leroy Sane (Manchester City)

Was involved in three of City’s 5 goals, playing on the flank. Sane took full advantage of the chance he was given by Pep and finds a place in this XI.

CM – Idrissa Gueye (Everton)

An energetic performance from Gueye was the catalyst for the Toffees who managed to come back from a goal down to take all three points from the Cherries at the weekend.

CM – Jordan Henderson (Liverpool)

The skipper of Jurgen Klopp’s side, Henderson has not been in great form of late but came out all guns blazing against Leicester, pocketing a goal to cap off his best performance for the club in all competitions this season.

CAM – Philippe Coutinho (Liverpool)

The Liverpool star was on song right from kick-off, picking up an assist and a goal in a brilliant first-half display that set the tone for Liverpool’s trip to the King Power.

Harry Kane scored a brace as Tottenham beat West Ham 3-2

ST – Alvaro Morata (Chelsea)

He took just four shots all game but netted a hat-trick in his first-ever game against Stoke, standing as the player of the weekend in the Premier League.

ST – Harry Kane (Tottenham Hotspur)

The English international was a constant menace in front of goal as he picked up a brace and helped his side to a 3-2 victory.
