La Liga Team of the Week – Gameweek 32
Gameweek 32 saw a lot of ups and downs in the La Liga. There were some upsets and some shock wins but nevertheless, it made for delightful football viewing and some entertaining moments on the field. Prior to a new week’s commencement, we bring you the La Liga XI of gameweek 32.
Dani Gimenez – Real Betis (GK)
There is no shortage of goalkeeping talents in the La Liga but for this week, nobody deserves this spot more than Gimenez. Betis endured a tough fight against Girona but they emerged as the victors in the end. The goalkeeper put in a spectacular performance as he made a total of five saves, thus helping fifth-placed Betis hold on to the 1-0 lead.
Diego Rico – Leganes (LB)
Rico not only defended well to put up a shield on the left-hand side but he also attacked with equal gusto and provided Leganes with a lot of power going forward. He almost had a chance to score as well but unfortunately, the shot went over the crossbar.
Diego Godin – Atletico Madrid (CB)
Godin continues to go from strength to strength for Atletico. He was rock-solid at the back against Levante and made some crucial interceptions whenever the opponents tried to attack. Undoubtedly, Godin was key to helping Jan Oblak maintain a clean sheet.
Samuel Umtiti – Barcelona (CB)
Umtiti is a central defending beast and he was at his usual best as Barcelona pulled off a promising win against Valencia. His tackles and blocks helped them keep the opponents at bay and all in all, it was an impressive performance from Umtiti once again.
Sime Vrsaljko – Atletico Madrid (RB)
It seemed like Vrsaljko had his name written across his flank because nobody could even get close to catching him. He provided an endless supply of crosses to facilitate the attack and was involved in the build-up to Antoine Griezmann’s goal.
Steven N’Zonzi – Sevilla (DM)
A 2-2 draw between Sevilla and Villarreal had several nervy and controversial moments but one player who kept calm and soldiered on was N’Zonzi. Throughout the season, the midfielder has played a pivotal role and last weekend was no different. He dominated the midfield and also chipped in with the crucial equalising goal for Sevilla.
Isco – Real Madrid (CM)
Isco has been in exceptional form lately and he put in a classy performance against Malaga. Placed in the heart of the midfield, Isco scored a goal and also provided an assist for Casemiro’s goal.
Andres Iniesta – Barcelona (CM)
Iniesta once again established his dominion in the midfield area and he was one of Barcelona’s most influential players against Malaga.
Lucas Vasquez – Real Madrid (RW)
Vasquez was a constant attacking threat against Malaga and provided an important attacking outlet for Real throughout the game.
Philippe Coutinho – Barcelona (LW)
Coutinho played in a wide midfield role against Valencia and it was arguably his best performance in a Barcelona jersey and it would be criminal to not include him.
Adrian Lopez – Deportivo (ST)
Lopez put in a stunning performance for Deportivo against Athletic Bilbao. He scored a brilliant brace which saw his team win the match 3-2 in what was a highly exciting encounter.
