Christiansen For The Sack? Anything Is Possible! – Here’s Why
It seems mad to think Leeds United may even be considering sacking the manager they only brought in during this summer.
However, following a run of 7 defeats in 10 games including 2 damaging derby losses to both Sheffield clubs, Thomas Christiansen has found himself right under pressure for sure.
In a true ‘chalk and cheese’ style, Leeds actually started the season by going 9 games unbeaten in all competitions and firmly placed themselves among the favourites to land the Championship title. Since then though, things have gone rather differently.
Here are two reasons why, in a mad football world, Christiansen could be relieved of his duties:
It’s Silly Season
Craig Shakespeare of Leicester City, Ronald Koeman of Everton, Simon Grayson of Sunderland, Pedro Caixinha of Rangers and Gordon Strachan of Scotland have all lost their jobs within a matter of days of each other.
When this happens, there is a snowball effect but it’s not simply some chairmen and directors influencing others to do the same. It comes down to the fact that if you have less confidence in your manager than you did a few months ago and were thinking of making a change, the fact that other clubs are also in the market for the best coaches means competition is ramped up.
What if Leeds had a replacement in mind for January, March or even next May should things go wrong, and that replacement heads to Rangers or Sunderland simply because there is a vacancy right now? Leeds may not want to take this sort of risk and might decide to relieve the manager of his duties forthwith.
The Club Has ‘Previous’
Since Simon Grayson left the club early in 2012, just five-and-a-half years ago, Leeds have seen fully 11 changes to the managerial position at the club.
Christiansen’s predecessor, Garry Monk was welcome to stay but decided not to. Monk stated that he chose not to take up his contract extension offer because of complications at the club and that has got to be a worry for Leeds United fans.
Alright, the ownership of the club has changed, but not everything in that respect has been positive. The manager does not get to choose all of the signings, especially those concerning certain Spanish and Qatari interests, and clearly things are far from rosy in the corridors of Elland Road.
Leeds have looked rather trigger happy in recent years so another defeat for the team could easily mean the hierarchy deciding to aim and fire at Christiansen.
