Go For Goals – Two Strikers Who Ipswich Town Should Target

Whatever happens, it’s a certainty that Ipswich Town will be much better next season after a very disappointing campaign last time and with the likes of Bersant Celina and Joe Garner brought in, there is positivity already.

They do need another striker though if they are to challenge for anything tangible and with their former favourite Daryl Murphy now a Nottingham Forest player, options are thin on the ground. That being said, a few bargains are potentially still out there and here are two players I could see being crowd favourites at Portman Road if given time:

Conor Washington (Queens Park Rangers)

The former Newport County and Peterborough United forward has risen up the football ranks slowly, but surely and unfortunately for QPR, it seems they are not moving forward right now. They had a horrible second half last season and it’s hard to see them bringing back recent Premier League glories in a hurry.

Even local competition is tough for them right now, with Brentford having a knack for signing hot players and selling them on for profit while Fulham look like genuine contenders for the title. Washington doesn’t appear to be a mercenary, but would be forgiven for looking for a slightly better opportunity at the age of 25 and Ipswich could be the benefitters.

Lee Gregory (Millwall)

A slightly different flavour here, as Gregory is officially a Championship player once again, but only by virtue of the Lions’ promotion last term from League One.

When he was in the division as a 25/26 year old, he netted 9 goals in 39 appearances but has improved plenty since then. 20 in 44 in League One was achieved in 2015/16 and another 18 in 40 last time mark him out as a decent goal scorer. Even at a higher level, he’d do better with a good supply line, something the Tractor Boys could boast with the likes of Celina in the squad.

Gregory is a rather left of field option perhaps, but the sort of option nonetheless, who goes under the radar of a lot of clubs. He could yet could provide tremendous value in the transfer market and is someone who would bring great experience to the squad, something that is perhaps overlooked too often in the place of potential.

The likes of Che Adams are spoken about in glowing terms and yet have achieved precious little to this point. This is something that is not lost on Mick McCarthy I’m sure and it is something displayed by him given the signing of Joe Garner.
