Here Are 3 Players Who Could Effectively Solve Tottenham’s Current Injury Woes

No Trippier No Problem – Here Are Three Right-Backs Who Tottenham Should Look To Sign

Tottenham Hotspur’s summer just got a wee bit more complicated after their only senior right-back in the squad, Kieran Trippier, picked up an injury in a 2-0 win over Italian champions Juventus in a pre-season friendly at the Wembley.

The 26-year old had been primed to be the first-choice right-back this season for the North Londoners, following the sale of Kyle Walker to fellow Premier League rivals Manchester City last month. However, with the injury setback now, it has left Tottenham in a difficult situation. The player was seen leaving the stadium on crutches and while the extent of the injury is yet to determined, it is very much likely he will miss at least the first few weeks of action.

Tottenham are likely to start with academy starlet Kyle Walker-Peters for the season opener against Newcastle United, but with the number of games they will be playing, the situation isn’t the most feasible. They are the only club yet to bring in a new player in the summer, and they will need to act quickly now, to find a solution to their right-back issues. And here are three options that the club could look to bring in.

Ricardo Pereira (Porto)

Pereira, who was on loan with French club OGC Nice last season, from Portuguese side FC Porto and had a very good campaign, in which he played an important hand in helping the club finish 3rd in the Ligue1. The Portuguese international finished the season with 2 goals and 4 assists in 30 games in all competitions with the French club.

The 23-year old has the pace and skills with the ball at his feet to act as an effective outlet down the flank and backs it up with good solid end product too. He can play as a left-back too and is comfortable being deployed as a wing-back, which would fit in with Pochettino’s 3-4-2-1 setup well. With his contract running out in a couple of years, Tottenham should act fast.

Davide Zappacosta (Torino)

The 25-year old Italian may not be the biggest name, but he surely is another option that Tottenham should consider taking a look at before the window closes.

Zappacosta had a decent season for Torino last time around, making 29 Serie A appearances, in which he managed a solitary goal and 5 assists, as the Turin-based club finished in the 9th place in the Italian top division. A consistent performer over the course of the season, the four-time capped Italy international has the ability to cross the ball accurately into the box and has the energy to be a natural fit into Tottenham’s intense style of play.

He too has a contract that runs until 2019, and a chance to play in the European competitions with Tottenham. A chance to challenge for the league title could tempt the player to move.

Jeremy Toljan (Hoffenheim)

Toljan did not have the most spectacular of the seasons last time around as he managed just a single goal and a single assist in 21 games for Hoffenheim. But it was his performances for the Germany U-21 side in the European U-21 championships that stood out and made people take notice. Capable of playing on both sides of the defence and in the middle of the park as well, Toljan offers a lot of value to the team due to his versatility.

With Danny Rose too recovering from an injury, having someone like Toljan who can fill in on both flanks would be a great addition for the club. With his contract set to expire in under a year, he seems to be the best option, despite the lack of experience.
